Title: WSA
Post by: Dutchboy on January 29, 2010, 08:43:40 PM
When a member is appointed by a Sqdn CC as a WSA , it shows up in the member report in e-services. What needs to be done to get the privilages assisgned?

Sqd CC or WSA above Sqd level needs to assign at minimum the WSA permissions from his WSA module. From there the new WSA can add what he needs as needed.

I was under the impression that WSA privileges were to be given based on duty assignment in E-Services automatically now??

For some specific areas, they are assigned by duty position. However, most privileges are granted through the WSA process.

As WSA, it just feels weird granting myself permissions.

WSA permissions are not on the list that get added per duty position. At least not yet.

Not likely, either. WSA is directly assigned by the commander, or a higher level WSA.

Okay, some web permissions are granted by duty position instead of WSA. Technically, they're not WSA permissions.

The above ARE permissions that need to be granted to the WSA at their respective scope by either the commander or a higher WSA.

After that, these permissions will allow the WSA (Web Security Administrator) to add other as needed to themselves or others within their assigned scope.

Additionally, those assigned as WSA's must be carefully chosen because of the respective authority they will have once the above are granted.

All commanders are automatically granted WSA permissions. This started last August.

If you're a WSA you'll find that you'll have very little need to assign restricted permissions anymore. To be sure there are exceptions but most duty assignments now have restricted permissions automatically assigned. This makes it easier for those who are WSA's.

Not exactly true.  In some places, the Wing retains all WSA privileges down through the squadrons through one or two Wing-wide WSAs and that's it.  No squadron WSAs and no squadron commanders with WSA abilities.   If you have a cadet programs officer who needs the promotions module or something, it's got to go up the chain to the Wing WSA.

that is a nice painful way to NOT get things done and get what is needed. Though this does help minimize the level of control, sqdns really should have some WSA control within their unit though.

Aren't a lot of those modules assigned by duty position now?

There are a lot of permissions that are automatically granted by duty assignment, but not all. Also, if you have someone who needs access, but doesn't have the duty assignment, you grant it via WSA.

Can Wing override the automatic permissions? I don't know.

I'm a WSA for my unit and there are some modules that you can not assign without the duty position.
