Title: Transgender ban
Post by: Ravenwings on July 27, 2017, 02:34:12 AM
Today the Commander In Chief placed a ban on transgender individuals from serving in the Armed Services. As a part of the Total Force, USAF, does that mean that transgender Senior Officers and Cadets are now banned from Civil Air Patrol?

No. We are not part of the military, so military polices do not apply to us.

As an independent non-profit corporation, Civil Air Patrol, Inc. sets its own membership policies.

Total Force is a doctrine, it doesn't impact at all that we're still a separate entity. We're no more "a part" of the Air Force today then we were the day before to Total Force announcement.

CAPR 36-1

This regulation establishes the background, authority, and purpose of the Civil Air Patrol
Nondiscrimination Program. It defines CAP's Nondiscrimination Policy, as specified in the Civil
Air Patrol Constitution, and the practices and procedures for ensuring the membership is aware
of CAP's intolerance for discrimination in any form.

The initial para also calls out specifically:
DOD Instruction 1300.28, In-Service Transition For Transgender Service Members
So unless that CAPR changes, nothing changes.
