Ran across this on the web.  Someone at NASA developed some training software for ground DF.  I can't find the actual software, nor any other reference outside of this article.  At the bottom of the article is a PDF from the person who wrote the software talking about its development/use.  Does anyone know anything about this?

After reading the abstract, I have used this before, its actually quite effective and plays like a computer game.

The graphics are rudimentary by today's standards, but were good for the time.

I have it around here somewhere, unfortunately the link on NASA Glenn's page is 403.

If I find it I'll post it.

A little more data to help the search.

We're looking for "df88.zip" - I'm finding links all over the web for the software, but they all go to the same dead page on NASA Glenn.

I'm also running some queries on my archives...

I'm also running some queries on my archives...

1. Select 121.5 (or 121.775 for training missions)
2. Select DF Mode
3. Turn Sensitivity to Maximum (Full Clockwise)
4. Turn Volume to About Mid-Scale
5. DF Needle Will Move Slightly Left and Right

Oh, I am sorry.... wrong type of electronic search

Attached is DF88.zip

Have fun.

Here is the archived link to the dead NASA site.
DF88 website

And here is the current link to NASA Glenn Research Center showing the (Mobile) Aeronautics Education Laboratory (MAEL/AEL) still listed, about 3/4 way down the list.

Explore the Glenn educational site, there are a lot of other simulations, both simple and complex, for download.  Not sure why this one is dead.

AWWWWW!  I had to reboot and you beat me!

Installed it on XP, seems to work ok, but its not making the sound like I remember it did.

I found it on a backup from 2003.

Does anyone know why I would get a file error message stating "Cannot find VB40016.DLL" ? Thx.

Hmm...you seem to have a different version, yours failed on a missing .dll, mine includes a .cab installer (though it does have an old .ocx that I skipped).

The file is too big too attach (2mb) link here: http://group22.net/files/other/df88.zip

You can get the missing .dll here: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?vb40016

Isn't Windows wonderful.  The program runs fine on a my machine with Windows XP SP1 but on my machine with SP2, the sound worked, then stopped.

As for the ocx and dll files, Eclipse's new upload contains all of them.  They may or may not already be installed on a particular machine.

OK, sardak posted v 1.3, and I had ver 1.4.

I found all the missing files and packed them together.

1.3 just requires opening into a directory on your machine.

1.4 has to be unzipped and installed.

Both seem to work, but for some reason 1.4 doesn't make the ELT sound like 1.3 does.

I am not getting any sound. I installed the one posted via link vs the .3 and .4 versions. Is this normal?

Endless thanks to Eclipse for sharing!

It is about as addictive as Tetris when it first came out.

HIGH SCORE Competition time.... I just got a COMMAND PILOT rating, no score listed (program must not go that high)  >:D

Tie for 1st  :D

Hmm, little factoid I just learned.  The program was created by Bruce Bream from Ohio Wing, who is apparently still an active member.
