Likewise.  Ed flew that airplane for more hours than most of us can imagine.  He was a NASA pilot for 18 years.

Little known, but that airplane, with Ed at the controls, took part in a Synthetic Aperture Radar experiment years ago looking into whether or not the radar could find parts of downed airplanes in the Sierra.  Believe that it was found out to be capable of doing so, but too expensive for CAP or the AF.

Excellent tribute to Ed.

Interestingly, the DC-8 had been leased to the University of North Dakota for the last two years.  However, cost savings weren't as expected, and NASA decided to bring the plane back to Dryden.  Ed flew it from North Dakota back to California the morning of the day he and Dion crashed.
