just adding on.  One area where I found many CAP pilots deficient on checkrides has been in stall characteristics of the Cessna 172 and 182 series aircraft.  Yes, almost everyone does a stall or two on their initial and annual flight check but is it realistic.   How many checkrides are conducted with the airplane loaded to mission weight and balance?  Two on board, little or no baggage/cargo, reduced fuel and the aircraft will just mush along bucking, weaving, bobbing, searching for that 'break' all pretty much a non event.
But, put a body or two in the back seat.  Add all that "mission essential" cargo (junk) everyone seems to think they need and now go out and do a stall or two.  Especially an uncoordinated stall.  That formerly rather docile Cessna can now become a butt kicking dragon.  It is in this configuration that pilots need to be fully aware of the signs, sights, sounds, feelings of a impeding stall and in stall recovery from a incipient spin.  Altitude is your friend, but awareness is your bosom buddy.
