AAFES name tag plant is still working on it with NHQ, coordinating specs. Ordering them through MCS is forthcoming but for now only ultramarine is available.

AAFESwho?

AAFESwho?

AAFES is working to make CAP tapes available for purchase through their system.  But wait, you can't purchase them through AAFES because you're CAP......   ;)

As soon as that storeroom full of unmatched, GEN-1, Big-N-Tall ABUs is cleared out to make way for a breakroom,
AAFES will re-forget who CAP is.

Will we be able to get them through the local Exchange if not online?

That was a joke, I think.

BITD you could get smurftapes from AAFES via mail order, probably because they had leftover roles from the 60's,
but why would the average local MCSS stock smurfblue tapes?

Big and Tall? Is that what a Size 50 short is these days?

Tall? No, short and I dare say very overweight? Most definitely.
In god we trust, all others we run through NCIC

MCS has been able to order silver, plastic, and BDU name tags for years. They're not stock, they're special ordered from the central AAFES name tag plant at Fort Knox like the army, AF, navy, usmc, and coast guard tags they also make.

Getting them through the AAFES website is a different story because an outside vendor does those for whatever reason.

They're under the order form for navy/uscg/usmc tapes of an MCS employee isn't aware. Plastics are lumped in with coast guard tags. No clue why.

Bought the ultramarine tapes through them this spring.  They even make the 3-line nameplates for us as well.  When I was in there three-four weeks ago, they knew we we authorized ABU's.

As to why? They had multiple color tapes and threads, because there is demand for it.  Maybe not much, but hey.  It's an option that I prefer over giving to the big V.

That would be the "big", but point taken.

AAFES - your single source for the "husky" man!

Many would, for various reasons, sadly no longer an option for most members.

I should note that many service members get fun tapes made up.  For example, he has the last name of Skrypkynski, which got altered to Pvt. Alphabet.  One evening he came back with Alphabet on his uniform (knew it was a 1 time deal, then had it on his binder)  I had some gold on OD tapes made up because I wanted to, so AAFESS has the material to cover their clients needs, mostly.

We made some Star Trek tapes when staying on the Enterprise at Great Lakes. I was Chekhov, but unfortunately the tape got misplaced. :(

Jester

I work at an MCS, so if anyone has any questions feel free to shoot me a PM, nametape-related or otherwise. Being in a CAP unit on a base I never really understood the issues that those who don't live close to one had to deal with.

I have a tape reading, "MALFUNCTION".

Which is only accentuated by your rank as a Major :)  If I recall, you not only have a tape -- but a grey nameplate for your aviator shirt -- my wife thought that was funniest thing she had seen in CAP when we saw it at the '09 Conference.  Priceless moment!!

Thank you. I got that in '07, and wore it at the wing conference. Bob Van Horn about exploded when he saw it. I also met Gen. Courter at that event, and she liked it.

The conversation went about like this:
Gen C: I like that.
Me: It seems to be a good conversation starter.
Gen C: I should have one of those.
Me: But you're not a major any more.
Gen C: Haven't you ever heard of a general malfunction?
Me [smacking forehead]: Duh.

Later, at the banquet, I gave the nametag to her.

I also have one that says MAJOR, but not too many people get it these days. That book is no longer mainstream literature. Van Horn didn't like that one either.

Geez...with Bob VanHorn you really found yourself in a "Catch-22" with nameplates that those.   Gen Courter has a great sense of humor and I am sure that she got some mileage out of the nameplate.
