Rev. Francis Gerald "Jerry" Scanlan: 1935-2022. Retired Lt. Colonel, Army Chaplain, IL National Guard, Resident Priest at St. Damian Catholic Church in Oak Forest, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at the age of 87.

Dearest brother of Margaret M. "Peggy" (Scanlan) Olson; the late Eleanor Ann (Scanlan) Huber and Thomas Joseph Scanlan. Fond son of the late Louis Thomas Scanlan and Marguerite Elizabeth (Coleman) Scanlan. Dear uncle of Jerry Louis Huber of Missouri and Tom Huber of Chicago.

Fr. Jerry was born on September 15, 1935, in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Quigley Preparatory Seminary in 1954. He attended St. Mary of the Lake, Mundelein Seminary and was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest, for the Archdiocese of Chicago, by Albert Cardinal Meyer, on May 1, 1961.

Fr. Jerry faithfully served as associate pastor at St. Eugene Parish, 1961-1966; St. Mel-Holy Ghost Parish, 1966-1974; Incarnation Parish, 1974-1980; St. Andrew Parish, 1980-1988; St. Bede the Venerable Parish, 1988-1998; and St. Damian Parish, 1998-2005; and as a resident priest at St. Damian, 2005-2022. He also served as an Army Chaplain for the IL National Guard for nearly 30 years, 1966-1995. The last few weeks of Fr. Jerry's life he was in the compassionate care of Rainbow Hospice. Beloved by parishioners and friends, Fr. Jerry was known as a joyful priest, friend, and "grandpa". He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
