That's probably just a fraction of the ones that are used.

And to be pedantic about it, most are initialisms, and not true acronyms, since they are usually spelled out, and don't make pronounceable words. And CAP is, according to my training, NOT an acronym, and should be spoken spelled out - C A P. There are a couple of exceptions, when CAP is used in combination with other letters, like CAP-USAF, and the olde CAP Flight call sign.

If you really want to get picky about it, most are not CAP acronyms, initialisms or what-have-you. They come from other services.

It might even help if the list were split up into the lists by originating agency.

Missing many....GSAR, GTL, GTM, BLUF, FUBAR....

Nope. It helps to have an alphabetical list, vice 4, 5, 6, 10 lists to look over. A list of acronyms and abbreviations in common use by CAP members, not just a list of CAP acronyms and abbreviations, is useful. Didn't there used to be a pub that listed them? It might have been a wing issued doc, but I coulda swore...

Gee.  I just happened to run across this list and thought some folks might find it interesting. This is one of those times I would like to just delete the thread. LOL

Golly, that sure is a swell list!

Is that more in line with the validation you are looking for? If you don't want to generate comments, don't post.

^^ Yep.  And that is a big reason this forum with nearly 7000 members ... only has about 50 or so , it appears, that posts or reply regularly. This forum is as 'cliquish' as some Squadrons are.  >:D

Luis R. Ramos

Not 'cliquish,' some of us are... wait for it... it is coming... ARE the LEADERS!

Others are the doers!

Or another way of sayin' it is this board behaves like CAP.

Some of us... ARE doing the WORK of OTHERS!

(ducking under the table so the rotten eggs and other junk some of ya will throw at me do not hit)

"And Saint Attila raised the Holy Hand Grenade up on high saying, "Oh Lord, Bless us this Holy Hand Grenade, and with it smash our enemies to tiny bits. And the Lord did grin, and the people did feast upon the lambs, and stoats, and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and lima bean-"

" Skip a bit, brother."

"And then the Lord spake, saying: "First, shalt thou take out the holy pin. Then shalt thou count to three. No more, no less. "Three" shall be the number of the counting, and the number of the counting shall be three. "Four" shalt thou not count, and neither count thou two, execpting that thou then goest on to three. Five is RIGHT OUT. Once the number three, being the third number be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade to-wards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuffit. Amen."

Those are MILITARY acronyms, not Civil Air Patrol. Or have you forgotten we have cadets?

I designed that website about 9 years ago as my first go 'round as a PAO. At the time I was doing a lot of web design work and got this one going before I even got my butterbars on, so please forgive some of the content. It came from a total CAP newb. I moved from UTWG to MIWG 6 years ago, but it's cool to see the site is still up.
