As a borderline weight case for wearing the AF uniform I decided to really do something about my physical condition. We don't enforce PT on senior members but expect it of the cadets. I decided that even as I retire from the .mil I am going to stay where I can pass the APFT for my age as I am expecting cadets to do their PT. To that end I am starting week 1 on the program at http://hundredpushups.com/ Who is with me?
CS
I have always been able to out-PT a lot of cadets, and I'd join you and all, but I've got my own program. I mostly do cardio and only do upper body stuff to improve my push-ups when a PT test is on the horizon.
Back surgery last year, shoulder surgery in the near future, a bum ankle from my Army daze days...yeah, I joined the Air National Guard for a reason.
Cool beans. I have other workouts I do too but this has helped a couple of my buddies. I really slacked off after my re-deployment in 06. I retire after April 08 and just need to put a brake on things before I really sink.

It can be rought, I know. 10 years ago when I came back from a 9 month deployment to Bosnia (Army Infantry), I fell into a depression and in one year put on 30 lbs. After almost dying on the APFT (still passed but had to be taped), I made a huge change. A year later, exactly one year, I took the APFT and scored an even 300, plus I lost those 30+ lbs.
Now, my excuse are young children. But I still PT 5 days a week, but it's a bigger challenge to keep the love handles off so I just accept them. ;D
I'm on-board. This looks interesting.

Army life is hard on the body. Had knee surgery and may need more down the line.
Count me in. I hate to see what my pre-test is going to look like :'(

No worries. I am kinda ashamed of mine. I am 38 and should be good for 35-40 at least. I decided to post this here because I need some peer pressure to make sure I do this.

Alright, I'm in.
I might take a look at participating in this. I'm 50 years old and my days of doing pushups are quite far behind me, but since I've lost this weight (53 pounds and counting since September 26th) I need to do something to firm up the saggy-skin areas.
Jack
I just swam survived a 15 min. swim yesterday. Pushups and some cardio might be a good thing!
You can definately count me in!!! ;D

I started swimming pretty hard again 1 year ago after about an 8 year break from seriously swimming back when I was in the Marines. I could barely swim 100 yards without stopping and gasping for air.
Now, I swim 3500-4000 yards Every Mon Wed and Fri. So keep it up if you can. Look for a masters swim club near you and JOIN.

Looks like we are gaining some momentum. I will post my results as we go.
OK I guess I'm in. Not sure about push ups, wouldn't sit ups work on the stomach muscles better?
I have lost around 35 lbs over the last 18 months, still more to lose.
8)
Abs get a bit of a workout during situps because they help keep the back straight. Try doing a situp with your back straight, no curling - the back muscles get the workout then. The two groups pair very well in exercises.
Okay! I'm in! Good luck everyone.
Well, I'm almost 55, had neck surgery last year, looking down the barrel of a hip replacement (both from the same parachute incident 20 years ago) but I need to do something. I'm going to give it a whirl. I have a phenomenal gym at work and I need to use it.
If I can take the wubby of, I'll be able to wear the USAF-style stuff again.

It's got my attention been trying to get back into shape, lest the cadets in my squadron mistake me for an LTA aircraft. ;D
Does it matter if your butt is straight up in the air! ;D
well I guess i'll do it ;D
Never could do a pushup worth anything. I'll start tomorrow. Wife is starting me on a Die it (even though I do meet wt and gromming) so it goes with it.

Wait til age catches ya. Most of us get lazy well before 40. I am 38 years old with a knee surgery under my belt and still at it. For this we are tracking the pushups. When I start talking Hindu Squats and Burpees people usually run in fear.

I'll work on it. I dunno if it's too late for this, but it'll help out my APFT. My last, I did 52 in 2 min. My situps did worse though.

Tell me all about boot camp once you have it under your belt. Like I said, lets see what people can do after 35. Most of us have jobs, kids and don't have time or facilities at our disposal where training IS lifestyle. Keep the focus you have. It will help when you are older and more easily injured with slower recovery.

If youll notice, nowhere in there did I mention "Boot Camp". What CS said is true. Your in High School....enjoy it. You get paid to eat sleep and work out! Come back when your 35 and tell us about your workout routine. ;D
I hear ya Robert. I turn 39 in July and have to really work to do anything after dinner, time with the wife and kids. I am just making myself do it. I am also doing 65 Hindu Squats to rehab a knee with issues. I try to fence at least two days a week too. My doctor told me I am an "elderly athlete." That is what they call us who are still active at our age.
I hear that. My dose of reality came when I got denied for the Army WOC Aviator program at age 33 for being to old! I now swim about 3000 yard twice per week, but I have to get up at 0400 to do it and make it to work on time. Although, I attribute being active at a young age for so many years in the military from 17-25, then as a cop who gave a darn about PT, to the fact that I am still in good shape now. I can imagine someone who is in a stationary type job it must be a killer to stay in shape.
So, back to TEAM SURGE.....keep it up. I applaud anyone in high school who is committed to training the way you are vs. sitting in front of the X-Box. I think your type are becoming a rare breed these days. It will be much easier when your older to stay in shape vs. get into shape.
What are your plans for the after life? After H.S. that is ;D

I was originally telling myself "I will give this a try", after thinking about it, "try" is the wrong attitude to have about this, I AM GOING TO DO THIS. I am in pitiful shape exercise wise, my initial test only verifies this, I only managed to eek out 9, yes count them, 9 push ups. So I guess that I start with the middle column on week one.

Column 3 Week 3. How are we doing?
I've been sort of stuck in week 4 for a while now. I'm trying to complete the full week in the 3rd (hardest) column, but it really seems to ramp up in this week. Could complete it easily using the 1st or 2nd columns.
Im also doing a sit up and pull up challenge also. Should be fun. Ive come along way. But im having some trouble fitting into my blues. Do I need to switch to the Corporate uniform?
Pulled a muscle in my back two weeks ago. Restarting week 4.

Week 4 re-retest.

I think I might come aboard with this- even if I am a few weeks late. I've been focusing on getting ready for Marine OCS with the PFT-related exercises, but perhaps the program you're all talking about will prove helpful with this as well.
