These things are going to be passed out for the next years as "awards", especially to cadets.

Here is the medal after I had a chance to photograph the replica.

And should people wonder about the imagery on the front, these are two photos I provided. I *think* the Mint used them to model the artwork and cannot confirm with certainty if they did, for those wondering.

They're here!

Can you post close ups of the 1.5 inch coins? They look coppery from your images.

Майор Хаткевич

They do indeed. I'll unwrap one tomorrow, and take some pictures with a better camera than my phone.

Ixnay on the better camera. But it's on top of a mint proof set, and the color matches the penny, so I assume it's 2.5% copper and 97.5% zinc.

SarDragon

FWIW, a penny is not an alloy like a nickel. It's a layered coin, with zinc guts and a copper exterior. Here are the specifics - 97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper (core: 99.2% zinc, 0.8% copper; plating: pure copper)

Indeed. I cheated and went off the mint set data.

I received an email from the mint this morning that the four 3-inch medals I ordered have shipped. Presumably other folks will be receiving these medals soon.
