It isn't invisible at all. They just glue LEDs to half, and cameras to the other half.

This came out like a week ago.

The article is dated yesterday.

invisible:
adj.1. Impossible to see; not visible: Air is invisible.2. Not accessible to view; hidden: mountain peaks invisible in the fog.3. Not easily noticed or detected; inconspicuous: "The poor are politically invisible" (Michael Harrington).4. Not published in financial statements: an invisible asset.

I think #3 fits quite well.

That's how camouflage works, too.

Lighten up, Francis!

Quick memes doesn't have Picard, and meme generator makes my browser crash. So yeah. Edit: mobile browser.

This is a technology the US Military has been looking at for years. The best camo is something that absorbs light. Second best? Something that shows the image from behind the soldier on his front.

I'd say it's [darn] impressive.

Its awesome! Of course, its only "shielded" on side, and the 1/3 of a million dollar, 1100 pound  penalty will fortunately make it too expensive ( for the time being at least) to use them in Radar speed traps...I am sure the environmentalists will hate it, since feathery and furry creatures ( and bicyclists) would run full tilt into it without seeing it! I can't remember the author, but their was a quote I always loved; "The Invisible and the non-existent look very much alike."

Major Lord
"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."

Couldn't you theoretically do this on both sides with cameras and LED panels on both sides?

It only works from a very specific angle. It's like an M.C. Escher painting that has been modeled in the real world.

Yes, and the technology already exists in your cell phone to reduce the size of the cameras and imbed them in the skin.

Organic LEDs (OLED) on a flexible substrate will allow for the skin of the vehicle itself to be imbedded with the display.
5-10 years from now is where this gets really "interesting".
