Ahhh, forgive me for speaking through my hat. I guess years of talking about it rather than reading it [again] tend to change the story more and more... like a camp fire tail. It's probably a little of, or all of, the above for why we added US to the shoulder patch.

Imagine the stories we'll tell 65 years from now about why we changed the Command patch!

Some folks really need to read their CAP history books.  CAP coastal patrol bases opened up in 1942 and we were wearing uniforms, including the patch with US during that entire period until we were transferred to the Army in 1943.
