Title: New ES qualifications badges?
Post by: FNelson on March 12, 2019, 07:32:43 PM
Does anyone else think it would be a good idea if National created new ES qualifications badges like what they have for Ground Team and Incident Commander?

Example
Aviation Support Badge/Air Operations Ground Support Badge
          Basic: Flight Line Marsheller
          Senior: Flight line Supervisor
          Master: Air Operations Branch Director

Nope, we have enough badges as it already is.  Plus for AOBD those personnel already have wings so they've got a badge already.  If we then made them for Flight Line personnel then we'd have other specialties wanting badges too.

These is a proposal that's making it's way up the food chain for a Emergency Services badge (1 design, 3 levels) covering all ES qualifications without a badge and changing the GT badge to cover GT/UDF/DR qualifications. It's been posted here a few times.

That's not really the same thing.  They needed some kind of wings to qualify, yes, but
GBD has it's own badge (yes, UDF-GBD).

What's more humorous and probably telling about the state of CAP, is that on the same discussion
board, one group of members is debating whether CAP-ES is even relevent any more, while at the same time
others want to expand the badges for those same potentially irrelevant quals.

To paraphrase Adam Savage, "Well there's your problem..."

I had a suggestion for something like that which would be branch director for basic, PSC for Senior and OSC for Master, with the badge removed and replaced by the IC badge if you went that far.

LOL you're right I should have been more clear in what I was conveying, you're clarification is what I meant.

"Badges? We don't need no badges!"

Movie quotes aside, we have an awful lot of badges already. Unless we want to reduce them to the status of participation trophies, it might be time to stop adding them.

Not taking a side in all this, but that's exactly what the ES ( now specialty track) badge was. The com badge was similar.

Other than wings to designate air crew I don't see a need for patches. Just show me your 101 card and we can determine your qualifications. What good are badges that you can continue to wear after your qualifications have expired.

So why make an exception for aircrew? Those are permanent awards, even when the member is no longer current.

1). Because the A in CAP stands for air.

2). For the rest of it, ask Billy Mitchell and Hap Arnold.

Good luck spending much time in the "Air" without the rest of the alphabet...

Personally, I think we should switch to occupational badges like the AF.  We could actually get rid of a lot of the individual badges and lump them into categories.

Haha.  Sure it would.  Imagine all the sales of the new consolidated badges.  Plus, phase in and phase out timelines, they would make money.

Yeah, they would maybe make some money for let's say a year and then after that it will probably be break even at best.
