Title: What are your goals/objectives for CAP in 2012?
Post by: Stroke on December 30, 2011, 06:47:46 AM
I enjoyed this thread from last year. So, let's try it again!

What are your personal/professional goals for CAP in 2012?

What are your squadron/group/wing goals for 2012?

Are you developing any new plans/programs in 2012?

It's all about the details people!

Obtain my Mitchell and possibly C/1st Lt
Graduate from NHGA
Work on my ES quals
Go to Encampment as a Flight Commander
Go to an NCSA other than NHGA
Get my airmen to rank up into the NCO slots at Squadron
Train my replacement for 1st Sgt
Start training up my local Honor Guard
Try to form a Squadron Drill Team

Get up to C/CMSgt, or maybe even C/2d Lt
Staff encampment
Get some GT quals
Increase the size of my squadron through recruiting
Learn and master NCO-style leadership
A squadron honor guard or drill team would be cool...

On Dec 27, 2011 I finished the Officer Basic Course.

So goals/objectives and events for 2012 I'd like to have happen are:
1. Receive the Benjamin O. Davis Award by the Commander's Call meeting, first Monday of February.
2. See my Professional Development updated to Level 2 in eServices.
3. Be approved to be a 1st Lt Feb 16 - Feb 18th.
4. Study the Finance Officer Specialty track more and obtain a Senior rating.
5. Study Professional Development Specialty track and first become a Technician, then a Senior rating.
6. Study for and then pass the ACUT.
7. Become UDF team rated.
8. Take the four FEMA courses online
9. Get training and become Ground Team rated.
10. Take the CLC in Sept at March Air Reserve Base.
11. Go to Southern California's Wing Conference in Ontario, CA.
12. Complete Level III after attending the Wing Conference.
13. Complete 30 more hours community service to total 60 hrs for the Community Service Ribbon.
14. Be part of a team that finds a ELT.
15. Possibly go to an Encampment and learn how to be Senior Member staff.

Do lots of push-ups and situps
Have fun in my first term of CAC
Clean up uniform supply trailor
Drop down to a size Small short top
Lose even more weight
Keep getting better at the mile (First time I did the mile was a horrible 15 minutes, now I am at 8 minutes and am passing)
Make it up to C/MSgt
Go to encampment if JROTC JCLC doesn't count as a substitute
Do 100 hours of community service and earn my community service ribbon
If open, make it to Flight Sgt.
Have fun
Continue being a good wingman for my fellow airmen
And, continue to train in the ES field so I am at service to my community

Tackle OBC, starting 1 Feb.
Lay down some internal procedures to work with.
Not become a statistic (ie, perish in a crash, become a climate casualty, etc). :)

Almost the same as Thrashed's.....

But, I suppose that I would like to get some air time.  I've been doing base staff work so long that although I remain certified as an Observer, I don't know that I really consider myself very qualified at the moment.

However, in order to deserve that seat I probably need to spend some more time with the home squadron, which I haven't been active with since I was squadron commander.

But, frankly, given my commitments to other volunteer organizations that seem to be more relevant to the world I don't know if I'll really make the time to do it.

Be the best father and raise the best kids.

Return to CAP for the 4th time in 5 years and stick with it.

Keep my civilian job.

Get promoted in the Guard (should be done very very soon).

Continue what I started in January 2010 as far as health & fitness.  Started a quest to change my diet and maintain a certain weight.  In the process lost 40 lbs, went from mid-80s on AF Fitness test to three scores above 95, to include a 99.3 on the last one.  Dropped 4+ inches off my waist.

To find some way to get promoted to colonel that doesn't involve either becoming a wing commander or serving for 50 years.

Other than that, to get involved again - when I'm not filming and editing our children's TV show.

Dont stress over those who are quick to point out a mistake here. You are new to the forums I beleive and likely to CAP overall. Just do your best and learn to take comments like the previous with a grain of salt  ::)
Your goals are good, by working torward them you will succeed and I am sure that at encampment you will learn alot! PT takes time and constant effort, work on it regularly is my advice to a new cadet.

Thank you very much, I appreciate it. Yes, I'm still working on my Curry Achievement, so pretty new, but I probably shouldn't being making mistakes on ranks at this point. :)

Oh no, it's fine. I did laugh, I was just annoyed I made a mistake already. :)

Encampment seems like it's going to be awesome, but very intimidating at the same time. Do you happen to have any experience with the COWG encampment? That's where I plan on going this summer, and it would be nice to find feedback.

You are welcome. I am not a big poster online here myself, but I do read thru all of the post's and in that way a person can learn a lot and also get some good ideas and feedback. One thing I have noticed is that there are a lot of times when someone who is relatively new asks a question or makes a mistake of some kind- experienced members seem to swoop in like a seagull on a french-fry for the opportunity to point out what is wrong.... And I know myself that I would not be encouraged if that happened to me just starting our. I appreciate HG's quick response to you as well ;D

It shows that sometimes we; the more experienced people within CAP often just hit reply quickly and dont stop to think about how the person who made the mistake, or asked the questions might feel until too late,  if at all.
There is nothing wrong with correcting an error but in so doing you never want to cause someone to become discouraged- especially a "newbie"
Good luck to you and Happy New Year!
