Color Guard Questions

When it comes to color guard what are he requirments to become a color guard member.
Is there a certain age?
rank?
grade?

It usually varies by unit... This is included in AFMAN 36-2203, but is often ignored for various reasons in CAP:

Section E--Colors
7.32. Color Guard:
7.32.1. When practical, the color guard consists of two NCOs (the flagbearers) and two experienced
airmen (the guards). When selecting a color guard, make every effort to ensure uniformity in height
among members.
7.32.1.1. The carrying of the US and Air Force flags is an honor bestowed only on responsible NCOs.
When possible, flagbearers and guards who have had experience in this function should be selected. If
experienced personnel are not available, those selected should be thoroughly trained in the manual of the
Colors (paragraph 7.33) and made fully aware of the honor of their duty.

Other "rules" for color guard can be found in NCC ROE 5.3, though these apply mostly to the National Cadet Color Guard Competition.

There are no restrictions as to age of a CAP Color Guard. You are 13 and a cadet airman, and this would mean you have at least 18 months to two years to be on a color guard FOR COMPETITION. Only Cadet NCO's are allowed on a color guard for Wing or National Competition. There is no restriction on you being on a UNIT color guard for LOCAL activities if you are a cadet officer, so that gives you another 2-3 years.
There are two drawbacks for being on a color guard. First is the cost to organize one, the flags, belts, rifles etc will cost between $500 and $700 for quality equipment. Second, is the amount of time needed for training and practice. Since the cadet guards have to learn the manual of arms, all members need to lean the marching movements and so on it takes quite a bit of time to learn the movements and customs of a color guard.
