Promotion Review Boards

Questions:

Is your squadron doing PRBs ?

Are they worth the time and effort?

Are you using any particular forms?

What is your chain of events for the PRB from start to finish ??

when I was in a squadron... we did. :)

worth the time and effort?  since the staff already knows what the cadet is like, this is really where the cadet finds out what the staff thinks of his/her progress. the questions asked are just to confirm the staff's assumptions

we had made a unit form, but reverted back to CAPF 50, it worked pretty well.

how it works...
-cadet knocks on door, and we either say enter, or wait if we're not ready.
-cadet enters, squaring corners and stands in front of chair (placed in front of the ranking officer), and reports, then sits (at ease).
-board members ask questions from the leadership chapter covered by the promotion, and important concepts from previous chapters. we also ask an aerospace question from whichever chapter they tested on.
-top ranking board members will ask more general leadership questions for the NCO grades, and general "what do you think" questions of the Airman grades. for NCOs, we ask how they would react in a certain situation they might encounter as a flight sergeant.  for Airman, it's usually more silly stuff like "what would you do if you were the wing commander for a day"
-if we've already decided not to promote them, we'll tell them right there, and tell them why. otherwise, we'll dismiss them to return to their flight.  we'll go over our thoughts and answers from our questions and decide if we'll promote or not.
-now, the staff breaks out the soda and pizza, then goes back to the cadets in 20 minutes. just kiddin  ;)

Our squadron does PRBs.  We have a squadron form that we use that outlines his scores on his requirements (PT, tests, ML attendance) and special comments from the board.  To pass, a cadet pust basically earn at least (from 1-5) an average of 3 or higher and no single score lower than a 2 in the following areas:
Presentation/Bearing, Knowledge, Drill & Ceremonies, and Espirit de Corps (sp?)/"Teamwork."

For Airman boards, there is usually a C/Maj, C/Lt (1st or 2d) and a senior C/NCO.  For NCO boards, ther is usually a Lt, C/Maj, and C/CMSgt (1st Sergeant).

at any rate, one person (usually the junior cadet), asks the cadet three aerospace questions from the module that they studied.  The next senior cadet asks three questions from the leadership chapter, and the last (senior) member of the board asks questions regarding current events and general knowledge (Cadet Oath, Honor Code, etc.)  They take turns asking their questions.

I have asked the cadet staff to put together a review board for this monday night as a trial.

We do review boards for milestone awards, and combine them with the required once-per-phase CAPF50s.  I have a problem with boards for each and every promotion... what makes a C/Amn qualified for promotion to C/A1C?  Is there really much difference?  If they meet all the requirements and attend activities regularly, they get the stripe.

In addition to milestone reviews, we do review boards for cadet staff positions, a membership review board to get them in the door, and a separate test that gets them out of the training flight and eligible to test for Curry.

The board is pretty simple: standard reporting procedures, uniform inspection, questions from the board members, and a review of the F50.  My goal is to avoid making the requirement cumbersome.
