I was going through different gear lists in general and found a few things that caught my eye on the Hawk Mt Staff packing list and the weekend packing list.

1. where you you get a metal signal mirror?
2. What are the Nav. lights?
3. Where can you get a copy of the AFM 64-5? (Just wondering, always good to have on hand, no matter if your a Hawker or not.) (I'm not.)
4. What are TCN's?
5. candles, what are good ones to get?

There might be more questions later but these are what I have now.

I just get the emergency candles from the sporting goods section in Wall Mart. I've never seen a medal signal mirror before.

I guess that is what a month off from school gets me.

-The only metal sigan l mirror I have ever seen is the old camping mirror style with a hole drilled in the center
-Nav lights....think boats a red lensed and green lensed flashlight....I'll explain later
-No idea on the AFM...I am sure it has an updated name, thats all
-TCN's third country national...oh wait team commanders notebooks- a series of HMRS publications on numerous SAR topics, mostly outdated now, covering such things as land search theory, POD, land navigation and a few othes.
-Ususally the long burining ones from the camping department.

ok NAV lights since I know someone will ask:  think following a compass bearing, you try to line up a pair of objects to sight on to get/stay on the azimuth, imagine trying to do that at night, so: step in two team members, with differant colored lights calling them to move togther until you see both lights in line...shoot your bearing on move on to where the front light is standing.....then repeat the process.  Kind of outdated with the proliferation of GPS, but its not a bad technique to stash away....just like the Nav Line concept they have there too.
