How can I apply for an award for an incident in 1978?

NYPD DET.

I know, it was a long time ago. I was a cadet from 1974 to 1977. Two other cadets and myself were awarded medals by our school principal for saving an unconscious person from a burning house. Anyway to make a long story short, I joined in 2003 again and submitted the proper paperwork with all the documentation. It was approved as high as Group. Wing turned it down because it was more than two years. Regulations says you have two years to submit for an award. Are there any waivers like in the military to submit or correct awards?

Arajca is right. While what you did is very heroic, they don't care after two years. It's unfortunate, but that's the way it is. Good job on the save though. What could be more rewarding than getting a pat on the back from your friends here on CAPTalk?  ;D
