First, welcome to CAP and congratulations on becoming a cadet.

To be eligible for Cadet Airman you need to know everything in the binder - you'll get a new one for your second promotion....

Just kidding:

Here's the plain and simple:
1: Study the Leadership book, Chapter 1 and be prepared to take a test on it. (http://level2.cap.gov/documents/u_061404092725.pdf)
2: Put together your uniform correctly, there is a CD that comes with the kit, it has all the CAP Regulations and Manuals on it - you want CAPM 39-1. (http://level2.cap.gov/documents/u_082203102943.pdf)
3: Memorize your cadet oath, you must be able to recite it from memory.
4: Learn the basic drill movements outline in the leadership chapter. (http://www.cap.gov/documents/AFM362203.pdf)
5: Get attuned to Customs and Courtesies (saluting, "Sir" and "ma'am", etc.) (http://level2.cap.gov/documents/u_082503084356.pdf)
6: Start running...you need to pass a PT test that includes a mile run, curl-ups, sit & reach, and pushups. (http://level2.cap.gov/documents/u_082503084356.pdf)
7: You need to do moral leadership too - so make sure you don't miss it.
8: Find an outside activity in your squadron and go to it - you need to participate actively and live up to that cadet oath.
9: Start learning how to be a follower.

If I were you, I'd contact my element leader (if you have one) or flight sergeant to make sure you understand the requirements for it, what I've outlined above is actually quite a bit of reading and understanding to do as well as the physical aspects.  So.... Stop reading this and get studying...!

CAPR 52-16 Figure 2-1. will make progression much easier to understand.  It is on page 28 of the regulation.
