Capt. Edward L. Todd, Jr.
Tuscaloosa Composite Squadron
Alabama Wing

Edward Lake Todd Jr., born February 27, 1956, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, died unexpectedly on February 16, 2024, at age 67.

Edward graduated from Tuscaloosa High School, where he helped found the student-led WBBR radio station. He attended the University of Alabama, majoring in communications. During his 20+ years at WCFT-33 TV in Tuscaloosa, he worked as an engineer and production manager and produced commercials with TransVideo. That experience led to him starting his own company, Complete Video & Photography. He was a longtime local photographer and videographer, working with YMCA sports, filming weddings and other events, working with local attorneys to film depositions, and then migrating to his new passion, aerial photography. Edward also designed and managed multiple websites for businesses throughout the country. Thus, this is the beginning of his new venture, Todd Media.

Flying since 1976, he later became a Certified Flight Instructor. Because he wanted to share his love of flight with others, Edward started a flight school, Todd Flight Instruction, training and inspiring countless students throughout the area to become pilots. He often stated that his "office was in the sky," allowing him the opportunity to see the beauty of our world from perspectives most will never view.

Edward volunteered many selfless hours in the sky, working with a variety of service organizations such as Angel Flight and Civil Air Patrol. In 2021, Capt. Edward Todd was recognized for his work with the Civil Air Patrol as the Wing's Mission Pilot of the Year. Mission pilot requirements are some of the most demanding, as MPs work in areas of search and rescue and disaster support.

He was a member of Capstone Church. A godly man, he has always been described as patient, compassionate, and willing to give his time and resources to help others.

In 1980, Edward married the love of his life, Moya Stogrin. Not only did they attend high school together, they had a passion for the shared common values of faith and family, and each had an incredible sense of humor. They had five beautiful children: Jeremy (Karri), Bethany Gore (William), Heather Jones (Christopher), Edward III, and Mary Mitchell (Kevin). They have seven grandchildren: Brock, Ava, Parker, Brody, Ayden, Hank, and Desmond.

Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Lake Todd Sr. and Rubye Hill Harrison. He is survived by his wife, Moya, their five children, and seven grandchildren; his sister, Salliegeo Todd Foster (Billy); and sister, Rebecca Todd Minder (Gary).
