Can you post the full url?

Where at 1800nametape.com are the new nameplates? They're not under 'Civil AIr Patrol' All they have are the cadet blue plates, senior grey plates, brushed metal service dress nameplates, and the name and CAP tapes.

Uniform Accessories Unlimited (http://www.ec-securehost.com/uniformaccessoriesunlimited/AIR_FORCE_OFFICER_SHOULDER_EPAULETS.html)

1800nametape.com (http://www.1800nametape.com/cap.htm#DISTINCTIVE)

Be warned that I have heard that the plastic nametags from this company aren't so great... But I can vouch for the cloth nametapes and brushed steel Service Dress nametag... Which are both highly recommended.

Has anybody received a 2-line nameplate from a company other than Vanguard, of which they'd be willing to post a photo?

I don't really need any other piece of the uniform (or anything else) except for a nameplate.  Vanguard wants to charge me $7 just for the shipping of the nameplate, plus several more dollars for the tag itself.  Outrageous, I know.

I want to order from another source, but I want to hear from someone who has ordered from them firsthand that it looks okay.  Anybody have one?   :)

I ordered the blue nameplate from 1800nametape.com today. When I get it, I'll post a scan and review.
I figure I can wait until I'm in Denver to get the epaulets at Buckley.

I just ordered the new nameplate from 1800nametapes.  I needed some nametapes anyway so no loss on shipping.  All I need now is the aviator shirt, but the one from CrAPMart/Vanguard is too thin for my liking.  I'm still looking for a thinker version of the shirt before I buy one.

Well, I got the epaulets. Size Large. They're about 3/16" longer than CAP and 5/16" narrower.

Try these guys: http://www.tallyhouniforms.com/p_shirt.htm#aircrew

Tally Ho Uniforms Aircrew shirt is basically the Van Heusen Aviator shirt except it's made of 65% cotton broadcloth/35% polyester. Great service, reasonable prices.

For Shirts, see Marv Golden Pilot supplies I don't have the URL handy, but they had the Van Husen Aviator shirts for $17.95 last month. Short and Long Sleeves available.

Regular Van Heusen "Aviator" shirts are 65% poplin/35% polyester; some don't particularly like this type of fabric. The "Aircrew" shirt I mentioned above is identical is only sold by Tally-Ho, but it's 65% cotton 35% poly. The "Commander" shirt is identical to the "Aviator" except in material and that the pocket flaps are fully accessible from the top; recommend that the pocket flap tops be sewn shut.

CAP 39-1 only specifies an "aviator" type white shirt with epaulets and pocket flaps; I've seen enough variations worn by seniors, including shirts with permanent creases and holes for police badges!

Marv Golden does have good service as well; I bought one of their aviation headsets recently.

Or, do what I do... go to the local pilot shop (ironically, it's right next to the airport) who have Aviator shirts in stock. :)  I then managed to go into Dillard's and find a pair of gray dress slacks that meet our standards perfectly.  I had an Aviator uniform pieced together in a day with no shipping.  Worked out nicely.

I just ordered one from them yesterday.  I'll see how quick it comes and I'll post a photo of it when it does arrive.

If 1800nametape.com starts doing a quick, good quality, and cost-effective job, maybe we can convince them to begin carrying other custom & cloth CAP items.  I wouldn't mind ordering all my custom items through them if they can produce.

Out of curiosity, do theirs have the "Civil Air Patrol" and/or your name in all caps or upper/lowercase?  The first photo sample I saw from National had an upper/lower, then the next ones had all upper... I think the all upper looks a heckuvalot better, and before I get stuck ordering one, I want to know which one I'm sucking myself into. :)

They currently have the upper/lower configuration.  This is the pic they post on their site:

If I find one later on that looks better, I'll get it.  It's only a couple bucks.  I just want to wear test it, see how the uniform looks, and get some opinions from the seniors in my unit (and probably lots of weird looks).  :)

Just got mine in this evening in the mail... they look pretty good, though I don't know whether NHQ will standardize on all caps or the style shown above. The prong attachment is fused and not glued to the nameplate.

Waiting on 1st Lt AF-style epaulets - I can get the belt at the local army-navy store.

I have everything for this new uniform except the aviator shirt.  I ordered one from tally ho, but they're back ordered until mid-April.

Are those the same dimensions as the 3-line nameplates?

...and I'm still not digging the upper/lowercase. :)

Sure is... I think the NEC jumped the gun with nameplates - they should have standardized on a nameplate design or allowed the blue three-line nametag for seniors (which we used to wear) before announcing the uniform to the membership.

I have used Tallyho uniforms- they had very good service and the price on the aviator or the pilot shirt was only $ 16.95- at the time that was the least expensive I could find anywhere.. I ordered a couple and have been very pleased.

As for the name tags.... when I made inquires at vanguard and at the hock shop ... neither had all the info. Size of the tag, style of the letters etc. I really think national jumped the gun here. Should have had ALL THE SPECIFICATIONS ready. I noticed that here in Florida the Wing King had the uniform on about a week after the announcement :-*

I ordered my new blue nameplates from Vanguard... Just got them Wednesday. I scanned one. Notice theirs are all upper case (although small). Basically the cadet nameplate with the Air Force Auxiliary business removed.

What's Vanguard's catalog number for the new nameplate? Notice that the nameplate is a 'true' AF blue.

So we've changed uniforms and we're using two different size name tags with two different ways of engraving the letters?  Brilliant!

Doesn't surprise me in the least. Guess it's the price we pay for early adoption of a new uniform.

Nope.  That's the price we pay for NHQ not thinking through their decision and providing clear guidance.  I've heard reports now of two different size name tags from Vanguard alone.  And they are the "official" source.

That's for the Service Coat.  Only Seniors wear it, and only on the Service Dress Uniform.  Reference CAPM 39-1.

So yes, now CAP has 4 different plastic nameplates in circulation for different purposes.

The ones from 1800nametapes appear to be a shade too light, but the ones Vanguard is selling are clearly not engraved correctly based on the example shown in the photos posted by NHQ,
which match the ones made by 1800nametapes.

Not necessarily, sir. The policy letter from Maj Gen Pineda actually showed both "variations" of the nameplate. Col Chitwood is wearing the upper/lowercase (1800nametape variety), and Cols Levitch and Parker are wearing those like mine (Vanguard variety). I know it's hard to see, but I was there the day those (Levitch/Parker) pictures were taken and saw them myself.

The problem appears to be that, as stated before, NHQ has given no clear guidance on how they are supposed to look.
