'This is a perfect example of why we're going to lose a war with Russia/China,' one grumbled in the comments.

'First Problem. There exists a duty title called "Vice Commandant for Culture and Climate." Second problem: the billet is filled,' another wrote.

Microagressions.  We'll that's quite a humorous comment by the COL.

Good order and discipline is out the window @ USAFA. Has been going downhill for a while.
Standards are not enforced.
I have been increasingly bemused at the things I see and hear there...

Interesting.  "Lead by example" is entering entirely new territory.

Just an FYI, from someone who used to read the Daily Mail.....it's not a trustworthy source these days!  The article about USAFA is available from elsewhere, and its sadly true -  :( - , but the DM isn't what it was!

How dare a First Sergeant require Officer trainees to follow regulations. What is this world coming to?

It's not about the actions he took.  It's about the manner in which he did so.  To many, his letter stinks of racism.

And the folks can't handle being corrected.  They know the standards and shouldn't cry when they are enforced.

Really? I read his letter, I saw NO racism. None.

Maybe you didn't.  But not everyone feels the same way as you do.

Personally, I do see some racism in it.  Referring to "gauty" gold chains and "pants sagging below their waistlines" while at the same time referring to a famous African-American athlete?  I don't think the claim that it seems to be racially motivated is a stretch.....

But we all have our opinions.  :)

Yup you are what's wrong with this country.

There is no place for racism in our military, but I don't see these issues that were raised as racist. We need to be able to live without constant fear of offending someone. Society has become far too sensitive.

Why do you see it as racist? If you actually read the article and the letter written by the first sergeant, you would see that it is about a person dressing for success in the public eye even though he didn't have to and when others around him did not want to dress professionally. The "gaudy chain around his neck, his pants below his wast line, or with a backwards baseball hat on during public appearances" comment referred to other basketball players (both black and white) at the time that would wear such clothing before the NBA dress code took affect.

Indeed. But objectively there was no racism there. It is time for a reset in our military.

Stupid liberal notions like diversity, equality, anti-sexual assault, etc...???  Stupid liberal notions like allowing African-Americans, women, gays, transgendered to serve side by side???

I'm half asleep and don't have time to splice this and send PMs. Leave the politics off CAPTalk. It's a violation of the membership code of conduct, and it will result in suspension and banning with future occurrences.

I think other than abdsp51's ridiculous personal insult, it's been a civil discourse.  So is a civil discourse about something that can't escape politics allowed here or not?

You make an excellent point. This clearly cannot escape politics, and CAPTalk has almost never been known to handle sensitive topics well. On top of that, this post has absolutely no direct bearing on CAP as an organization.
