My squadron is the process of creating a new squadron patch and we are going to use a USAF style patch design but I need some help with a minor detail. We have the details mostly worked out but we need to know what the measurements are for the USAF disc and shield patch styles. The measurements I am looking for are height and width of both patches.

Don't forget, the disc is for squadrons.  The shield is group and above.

Group and above, not wing and above.

I know that is what regulations says, but there are many squadrons who use the shield patch instead of the disc. There are also a lot of unique shapes that some squadrons use as the basis for their patch.

Correct, however those are patches that are grandfathered in.  New patches are to comply with the new reg.

In the past, there were no regulations on the design of the patch. In recent years, this has changed.  As per CAPM 39-1, new patches must follow USAF heraldry designs. Therefore, squadrons are to only use the disc design and not the shield design. This is regardless of what you see, as it is a new change. Previous patches were grandfathered in.

Now that I am at a computer, I will add the quote from CAPM 39-1:

Quote10.7.8. Organizational Patch. Emblem approved by the wing commander for wear by subordinate
unit (group, squadron, flight) personnel. Patches designed after the date of this manual will meet the
intent of the USAF heraldic guidelines published by the Air Force Historical Research Agency.
