Title: Promotion boards
Post by: c/LTCOLorbust on July 27, 2006, 07:18:21 PM
Alright so, My qustion is can a Squadron hold a promotion board for a cadet within their squadron at another CAP non-squadron event? Such as an encampment, SAREX, Airshow, ect ect ect. Also can that board be made up of members not from that squadron?

While units may use promotion boards as a means to determine suitabilty... They are seen mostly as an extension of command authority and are not defined in CAPR 52-16... Well, not yet anyway.

In the first place there is no requirement for a promotion board. It's recommended, not required. If the Squadron Commander approves as well as the other Commander, Encampment or other unit, there is no problem. I would only consider at an encampment, not a SAREX or Air Show where to have a promotion Board you are taking away from the other activity.
However you may find that the training cadets from another unit have had and the questions they may ask are areas your cadet is not that familiar with. So you may be placing him/her at a disadvantage. But then again a Squadron Commander and overrule a Promotion Board in any case
