I have been reviewing and researching the member's names in final salute under member services for several years now. Many of these CAP members had served decades to our organization and their final remembrance is their rank and name only. I spend 10-20 minutes on each name (obituary/news article)and usually find more information regarding this member. I wanted everyone's feedback and wanted to know if anyone is interested in seeing that info (picture) here on CAPTALK. I find the information very interesting seeing showing the type of people who volunteer and serve CAP.
NOTE: I spent three years doing burial detail in the Army (Air Force, Marines, and Navy). We need to place as much effort saying farewell to members as we did welcoming them to the organization. Happy New Year!
Would you do that as an on going thread? If so my cadet and myself would love something like that.

I agree, very thoughtful project. Very meaningful in my opinion.
It could be an interesting project, but needs to be locked with only the 'official' writer having access to edit. Otherwise, you'll get a bunch of opinions on some of these folks, especially those who may have served in high places.

Dittos. Even if its just 100 'kudos' after each, the main obit for a person would get lost. Make it one long thread, one post per former member, no responses. Clean and simple.

How do I do that?
PM me.
I think this is a cool idea and i support it. So how would this work then? Can we message admins with past members of who we think should be on this board or would we set a suspense date? I.E members who's end of service commences after "x" date, would be listed on this thread.
We'll implement this in the upcoming major update to the forum around the end of the month.
Great idea. Looking forward to it.
What a great way to honor service. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance in this.
Just a thought on this, and maybe someone has already thought of it... How about giving this topic it's own bullet point kind of like the other categories. I.E uniforms and award or membership.. Just an idea.
Cheers!
Thanks for everyone's feedback. I decided I would like to do this and waiting for whatever format is best for this. I did have one member that had no obituary. I was thinking of reaching out to the unit to ask for information. Hit me with your opinion.....

I would say go ahead and ask.. What's the worst the squadron can say?? "No"?? then y0ou have an answer at least. If I were the Squadron Commander of the fallen member, I'd want that person to be remembered and reverred. Afterall, "thank you" is our most powerful form of payment in Civil Air Patrol.
Just my 2 cents.
Cheers!
