The Navy uses pilots too, they're the guys (usually civilians) that come out in the little boats to guide the large ships into the harbor, which is why the Naval Aviators are so adamant about the distinction.
And those pilots are paid almost as well as the aviators!
Probably better in some cases...
Ok some good aviation humor. I think it fits in here but maybe not. It is regarding the F-16. (and I would guess that a lot have already heard this joke)
So an F-16 calls for an emergency clearance for landing because he has been having some problems with his engine not running so smoothly. The tower replies that he will be number 2 for landing following the B-52 on final. The F-16 pilot comes back on to the radio to ask again for an emergency clearance for landing because he is having engine troubles, he would like to land before the B-52. The tower tells him that the B-52 is having a problem with one of its engines also and they are both on emergency landing clearances. The F-16 pilot comes back on the radio one last time and says "aw the dreaded 7 engine approach"
I heard on similar to that one.
During the VietNam War and F-4 was escorting a B-52 back to base when the pilots started one upping each other over the radio. After about 5 minutes of banter back and forth the F-4 pilot decided to go for the win and goes into a barrel roll around the BUFF. "Top that!" the F-4 pilot jibed at the BUFF pilot. "OK, I just did," the B-52 pilot came back. The F-4 pilot was confused, since he didn't see the B-52 even move any of its control surfaces, "You didn't best me, you didn't do anything!" The BUFF pilot responded, very aloofly, "I just shut down 3 of my engines."

I heard one similar; fighter pilot and an AWAC pilot playing "one-up"...the fighter pilot does a barrel roll and says, "beat that". After a few mintues the AWAC pilot comes back, "okay...I used the lavatory then got a cup of coffee."
