Good morning.  Im new to CAP and to the forum.  I have a question for all you commo types.

I have heard about the national EAS test that is going to 'sieze' all our communications devices for  3 minutes on Nov 9th. Whats the deal?  Will this effect CAP?

More information than you can shake a stick at by a Google search of "National EAS Test". The test is not planned to, nor expected to affect personal communications devises like cell phones, ipads, etc. Unless of course you are signed up to receive alerts for EAS messages on your communications device. You should however see/hear it on all broadcast (TV/Radio) stations that relay EAS messages. Should be at 1PM Central time.

If you are interested in why the test is being performed, search for IPAWS on FEMA.gov.  FINALLY, after all of these years, it appears that the government has finally succeeded in getting the warning system tied together.  The test should be interesting -- previous partial tests and accidental activations have been less than successful.
