According to the State Guard Association of the United States' "The MEMS Academy Report", Oct 2006, there are CAP members enrolled in the State Guard Association of the United States' MEMS (Military Emergency Management Specialist) Academy.  It's on the first page, 3rd paragraph.

How can a CAP member interested in attending a MEMS Academy do so?  Does the paperwork need to go through National, or just the SGAUS?  This sounds very interesting and is something National may want to advertise.

I'm one of them. I did it without joining SAGUS and am certifed at the basic level.

My motivation was two fold. Completing all the MEMS requirements to the basic level motivated me to complete those NIMS classes that were required for an ES qualification that I still hold inactively and am now one course short (NIMS 300) of being requalified.

NIMS 300 is an in-residence three-day course that I will be taking in October. I'm doing the Emergency Reponse to Terrorism stuff right now.

The thing is, I've been involved in two natural disasters -- one involving a Presidential Declaration, the other only qualifying for the SBA stuff -- through my state government duties. I'm finding out that with those qualifications under my belt, I'm more valuable not only to CAP but also to the county Emergency Management Agency where I can be called upon to assist in a command post. It also helped me during the recovery phase where I've been involved with the FEMA reimbursements to local governments.

Besides, the badge is cool, whether I can wear it on a CAP uniform or not. I didn't need to join SGAUS to get the badge. The proof was the certificate and the orders.
