Tracked Down a Security System

At an observed SAREX a couple oweeks ago, our ground team received an assignment to work with an aircrew to track down a signal.  The aircrew had picked up an unmodulated signal on the training frequency.

We followed their directions to a shopping center and began to take readings.  The DF unit gave us the strongest signals in the vicinity of a Papa John's and a Mr. Tire.

We even asked the people in Mr. Tire if any Air Force types had been around that morning, but they hadn't noticed any.

We drove to a few different locations to see if we could get any different readings, but the strongest signal was still by the Mr. Tire.

Finally, we decided a couple of us should go in and check it out.  We told the people inside what we were doing and they escorted us around the building.  Lo and behold, when I stuck the DF unit inside the door of the room with the security system, the signal suddenly became stronger.

The Mr. Tire folks told us it was a unusual day in that they had both the door to the room and the main bay doors all open.  It just was just a coincidence that it happened to be during our SAREX.

So, our team can now claim to have tracked down a security system. ;D

I'd be in trouble when I got home if my kids found out I went there without them.   :D
