Title: Flight Operations Specialty Track
Post by: N6RVT on May 27, 2021, 05:51:05 PM
My guess is that this was combined with the operations specialty track years ago, however it still appears on specialty track reports.  In our squadron the last time anyone got the rating was over a decade ago.  Anyone have a clue why its still listed as aa qualification?

Individuals with grandfathered specialty tracks are still granted those as credit.

Might have someone with a master rating in it for example that is working on their level IV/V and it would suck to make that grandfathered qual disappear from their record.

You can't just roll it into the new qual because they aren't identical.

It looks like there are seven specialty tracks on the extinct list.  Here they are listed by the last year of use and number of master/senior/technician level members:

2011 - ORGANIZATIONAL EXCELLENCE: 4/7/21
2011 - TRANSPORTATION: 10/1/4
2012 - AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE: 14/8/12
2012 - FLIGHT OPERATIONS: 282/214/430
2012 - SUPPLY: 13/13/11
2014 - PLANS AND PROGRAMS: 98/84/35
2015 - DRUG DEMAND REDUCTION: 29/50/88

Organizational Excellence has just four master rated members... I don't even remember Organizational Excellence as a track.

Administration could probably go at this point - it was mostly about keeping paper regulations updated and paper correspondence.  90% of all that is gone and the rest could just be added to Personnel.

Operations seems really light, even more so since Flight Operations is no longer a thing.

My wing never even seemed to care about OE. I kept trying to enroll and my requests entered a black hole.

Recheck that list. Professional Development Officer has been redesignated as Education and Training Officer about mid-April 2021. They use the same badge.

Unfortunately, no-one has told the eServices duty positions or specialty tracks modules that, at least based on what I can see.

To be fair, NHQ has been super busy with...

If it offers some consolation, NHQ also changed the Safety Officer pamphlet, CAPP 217 to the new one, CAPP 40-160 without any advance announcement.

The CAPP 40-40 update was largely an administrative update, although it did add a couple small things. They haven't changed the labels in eServices yet, so it's all still PD.

The safety specialty track rewrite was more substantive, and set back some of our safety officers.

I know there is a rewrite of the command specialty track in progress, and more broadly, they want to refresh the whole specialty track system in the medium term. Including recording requirements in eServices like we do for professional levels now.

By the way, I was reading the CAP publications index. As a reminder, these indexes have a section that lists obsolete publications. Guess what? An obsolete pamphlet is CAPP 204, Specialty Track Study Guide - Professional Development Officer.
