I notice at the bottom of the CAP Talk home page that total posts to the board are 197,693. I wonder when it will go over 200,000 and who the lucky poster will be? Will bells sound and whistles blow? Is there a prize?

Sorry, but I am a numbers guy. These things intrigue me.

Quite true.

Based on historical average daily post information, the 200,000th post should be sometime on 31 Jul 10.

NOW who has too much time on his hands? (But I like the statistics)

It would be cool if the 200,000th post was made to this thread.

Probably attributed to having it open in a tab behind other sites most of the day.

As to the high post count - I don't do Facebook, Twitter, or any of that other Social Media nonsense, so this is the only place I'm "contributing" (note the quotes).  A little on CS, too, but its mostly the same conversations with the same people.  My job is based around computers, mostly remote, so I'm tethered nearly 24x7 with no one looking over my shoulder.

If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a noise?

If a milestone is invisible and is passed, is it still a milestone?  I say we drive on with the party at the end of the month!!!!

OMG! THAT'S ME! What do I get? Nothing? Oh well.

At the risk of derailing my own thread and, much worse, turning THIS into a uniform thread, I would support some sort of 200,000th poster bling wearable on all corporate (excuse me, CAP distinctive) uniforms (except for the BBDUs when worn on the third Thursday of a month and never on 30 Feb).

After applying (way too much) additional thought, I think a badge, tab or other device alone is insufficient for an accomplishment of this magnitude. I believe a different-colored t-shirt, a shoulder cord, and an ascot (and possibly distincitive headgear) are also in order to denote this momentous achievement.

Of course, applying my "tree falling in the woods not making a sound" analogy above, I still believe the 200,000th "VISIBLE TO THE (unwashed) MASSES" poster should be recognized as well as the 200,000th STEALTH poster.

Now, do we need to go to the trouble of actually revising the official CAP publication(s) or is a permanent ICL or an e-mail sufficient?

Wow, who knew this much would be involved when I noticed the number at the bottom of the webpage (after only 6 months of coming to this board almost daily)?

And we (ok, I) HAVE succeeded in making this a uniform thread.

However, the post at the bottom would have to be around ~203,500 to be it

Sorry, I was not trying to indicate that your (truly momentous) accomplishment was stealthy in and of itself, just that it wasn't apparent to us, the great unwashed CAPTalk masses who are shielded by the all-knowing, omnipotent Mods who protect us from "...(spam, moderator area, archives, etc)..."

I am still in awe of your achievement! Heck, I am trying to get you a t-shirt, shoulder cord, et al out of the deal. I am just saying: When we get to observe the symmetry of the counter that WE can see (non-stealth) roll over, we should celebrate the event.

Gee, at the rate we are going, that event might even occur on THIS thread!

Not that it matters much, but the board went over 200,000 VISIBLE (to the unwashed masses) posts a couple of hours ago.

Based on the available stats, I'd say we're still a good three and a half to four months from hitting 300,000. Of course if we start a new thread about ABU berets worn with the CSU, we might hit that next week. Of course in that case Eclipse will probably be the one to get 300,000.

I work for myself, in the IT field, so I'm online nearly 24x7 in some form or another.  CT is either open in a tab, or the "unread" are a shortcut away.
It's admittedly somewhat of an obsession, but as I've said before, I don't participate in any other forums, or bother with the "social" stuff, so
my time here doesn't extrapolate geometrically into similar spaces. (I do find it amusing when posters here jump on boards in other forums and
ask the same questions of the same people and get the same answers).

The nature of what I do winds up being a lot of "hurry up and wait", or like next week, sitting within spitting distance of a trade show booth
balancing "hope nothing breaks" with "hope something little breaks".
