Just an FYI, from someone who used to read the Daily Mail.....it's not a trustworthy source these days! The article about USAFA is available from elsewhere, and its sadly true - :( - , but the DM isn't what it was!

It's not about the actions he took. It's about the manner in which he did so. To many, his letter stinks of racism.
And the folks can't handle being corrected. They know the standards and shouldn't cry when they are enforced.

Yup you are what's wrong with this country.
There is no place for racism in our military, but I don't see these issues that were raised as racist. We need to be able to live without constant fear of offending someone. Society has become far too sensitive.

If you actually read the article and the letter written by the first sergeant, you would see that it is about a person dressing for success in the public eye even though he didn't have to and when others around him did not want to dress professionally. The "gaudy chain around his neck, his pants below his wast line, or with a backwards baseball hat on during public appearances" comment referred to other basketball players (both black and white) at the time that would wear such clothing before the NBA dress code took affect.

I think other than abdsp51's ridiculous personal insult, it's been a civil discourse. So is a civil discourse about something that can't escape politics allowed here or not?
You make an excellent point. This clearly cannot escape politics, and CAPTalk has almost never been known to handle sensitive topics well. On top of that, this post has absolutely no direct bearing on CAP as an organization.
