Title: ACR DF Unit

http://www.acrelectronics.com/

They are listing a Direction Finder on their site now... Is this new or have I just missed this up until now... Looks like a "Trackker" brand unit...

Anyone out there have/used one before?

It's not new... been around a while. Seeing as ACR is right around the corner from my day job here, we did a little testing on them when they were new.

I'll first say, for their intended use, they work well. ACR designed them to be used on larger vessels and commercial fishing boats. The idea was is you put "homing beacon" packs on your crew and if they go overboard you can locate them easier than by sight. For this they are good, and have about a 7 mile range in calm conditions (flat and obstruction free...).

For our use, where we don't always have flat land, and lots of obstructions/reflections, They were very unreliable and often "deaf" until within a half mile or so, which for the price they are asking isn't a logical choice. I also found the handle grip slippery and uncomfortable.

This is just my observation and opinion YMMV.
