I started this thread to list possible SAFE activity ideas. Please post any ideas you have. Some of the activities would be outside using the conference call feature on cell phones. These are just ideas. You be the judge if they are good or not. Some ideas might not be permitted in some areas.

We have lots of bored cadets with parents not working, so they are looking for something to do. Cadets tend to be people that have an interest in emergencies and want to be active. Keeping distance would be somewhat exciting because it is real, not play. Distance is a real life emergency survival action, not a drill or practice.

The one BIG rule would be unless it is a father, brother, friends that are at each others houses everyday, so no one comes within 75 or 100 feet of each other. One time violation of the distance rule is a permanent ban. Likely all participants are either with parents or older and mature. If the Wing forbids you to do anything, just do it without the CAP symbols (Outside of CAP). Everybody has cell phones so it is easy to talk to each other at a distance. With cells cadets can see and talk to each other during activities. Make sure to post on social media.

1. ROADSIDE SEPARATION MARCH: Have the squadron arrive at staggered times, maybe 15 or 30 minutes, and walk in uniform along the most busy highways and downtowns. Especially past Costco. Call the local media, they are looking for stories because very little is going on locally. Post on social media, send pictures to the Wing Facebook page.

Have a color guard march where the participants are at a distance. Have a ceremony along a busy street where everybody is way far apart. Have a flag raising ceremony.

2. HIKE in the woods. Start in 1/2 hour intervals. Post on social media.

3, VIDEO GAME MEETUPS ONLINE: Play video games with a virus contagion theme. Maybe games such as Resident Evil, World War Z, Walking Dead, etc. Should be done at the multi-squadron level.

4. VETERAN CEMETERY CLEANUP: Pick a day, have cadets arrive at different times. Post before/after pictures on Facebook. Call local media.

5. FIND IN THE WOODS: Have something in the woods to find.

6. BATTLEFIELD VISIT: Visit staggered times and/or keep distance. Historic battlefields are big.

7. EMERGENCY CENTER DRIVE-BY: If there is an emergency center with activity along a highway, drive by and maybe see people in full body suits. It is not everyday cadets can see an emergency response. The emergency is a good time for cadets to learn about emergencies by living through a real one.

8. PHYSICAL FITNESS CONTEST: Show up in the park at intervals, get timed (at a distance) by a volunteer that will be there all afternoon. Situps, pushups, etc. Maybe do once a week.

9. ROCKETS: Launch rocket in a big field. Have pre-set stations marked for cadets to take so they do not come close.

10. DRONES: Have a drone meetup. Have pre-set numbered stations setup where the cadet and parent need to stay.

11. BB RIFLE CONTEST: Bring your own BB rifle to a member's farm or any large member owned property at different times or staggered positions, Or shoot at all different locations, post scores with  the honor system. Maybe have a Wing level BB rifle contest, email pictures of targets, honor system. The NRA has something like this by mail.

12. RADIO/CELL PHONE FOREST INFILTRATION: Line up in intervals along a treeline, travel though the woods in a line going left and right, guided by cell phones.

13. TOTAL DISASTER PREPARATION: Create a mock (Or not so mock) emergency camp in the woods. Build a wall, 10 foot lookout tower, Build aluminum foil food solar cookers. Have cadets and parents come by during different times of the day, build over a period of days. Make a bell alarm system to warn about infiltrators, etc. Have several projects going on at the same time, but a distance. Dig a hole to hide in. Who knows how bad this will get, or something else in the years to come. This would make a great youtube video. Have updates.

14. FISHING: Learn to fish. Lakes are big, no reason to be anywhere near each other. Stay within sight though, call each other on the phone. Filet and cook.

15. POST ON CAP FORUM. No need to explain this one!

Do you feel these suggestions are consistent with the National Commander's directive?

QuoteAny CAP gathering that can be postponed without negatively impacting CAP's mission readiness or emergency services capabilities should be postponed until after 11 May 2020.

Is walking a half hour apart a "gathering." Same with online video gaming and cleaning a veteran cemetery at different times. A "gathering" in my mind is getting together physically, nearby. Is fishing at 1/4 mile intervals a "gathering." Is each person coming every 1/2 hour to a set location for a physical fitness test where someone watches from 1/8 of a mile a gathering? Besides, the rule might be relaxed in a week or two.

I can't possibly believe the rule applies to online activities. If it does, see the next sentence.

Besides, lots of the parents and cadets know each other outside of CAP, so they can informally do whatever they want  outside of CAP. Please see quote from my post.

Obviously the rule does not apply online, do whatever you can in that space...

...but the majority of what you are suggesting is explicitly prohibited in the increasing number of areas
that are on lockdown, and the threat is civil penalties.

They want you to stay away from other people, period, not game the system and cross your fingers.

Don't be that guy.

Core values much?

I think this is a marvelously BAD idea, for reasons noted above.

That said, we're done. If you think there are any serious overriding reasons to re-open this, report this post, and the mods will discuss it.
