Broward sheriff: One dead in Everglades plane crash

A single-engine plane crashed and its pilot was killed in the Everglades near Alligator Alley, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Florida Civil Air Patrol spokesman Tyler Lahnen said the family of the pilot, who was flying an RV-7 experimental aircraft, reported the pilot missing shortly after midnight.

C.A.P. began to search for the plane last night and then began again at first light this morning.

The wreckage of the plane was spotted in swampland outside of Coral Springs at 6:50 a.m. by a C.A.P. aerial search party, Lahnen said.

C.A.P. directed BSO's Aviation Unit to the scene, but it was unable to land due to the terrain.
