Donald Lee Singer, Sr., passed away peacefully of natural causes on January 4, 2023. Donald was born on May 26, 1937 in Manhattan. He grew up primarily in the Bronx and attended New York City Public Schools. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1955. He graduated from basic training at Sampson Air Force Base. After this he was assigned to Homestead Air Force Base, Florida. He was then transferred to a U.S Air Force Base in Morocco, North Africa where he was assigned to a B-47 bomber base. Donald received an Honorable Discharge in 1959 having attained the rank of Airman First Class. In 1960, he became a Police Officer with the Greenburgh Police Department in Westchester, NY. Donald rose through the ranks becoming Chief of Police in 1975. He earned 4 college degrees while working full time, one of which was a Doctor of Law granted in 1985. Donald retired from the department in 1992 to practice law full time, a profession at which he worked full time until his passing. Donald was also commissioned as a Captain in the U.S. Army. Again, he rose through the ranks to retire as a Brigadier General. He was involved in many military activities. He served 4 months with the Guard at Ground Zero after 9/11. Donald was also a licensed pilot since the 1950's. Donald was an active member in The Civil Air Patrol holding the rank of Lt. Colonel. In 1960, while on police duty, he met Anne Hyland of Dublin, Ireland. They were soon married and remained so ever since. They lived in Cortlandt Manor for over 60 years. Donald is survived by his wife Anne, 3 sons, Donald Jr. (Robin) of Peekskill, Garry (Letty) of North Salem and Brian (Brenda) of Yorktown. Donald's happiest times were with his family, which includes 7 grandchildren, Lauren, Caroline, Matthew, Sofia, Anna, Kyle and Auggie. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his love of animals, his generosity and his willingness to help others.
