Link to photos and description of a Kenwood TK-730 installed in a Ford pickup.  The owner says it draws over 20 amps.

He has scanned the schematics and other documents here:

Also, one of us CAPTalkers (floridacyclist/Gene Floyd) owns one, according to this thread:

I just looked at the skizmo, and it shows a 15 A input fuse, so a 15 A PS will do fine.

Is amperage the only thing I need to worry about besides duty cycle?  (Components and circuitry are not my strong suit)

Duty cycle is more of a concern for the radio than the PS. A hung key will toast the radio before it will hurt most good power supplies. As an aside, good ventilation does add to component life.

Okay, my commander told me which PS to get.  Its an Astron RS-35A (I'll get the 35 amp for when I eventually get into HF).  $75 to $100 so not too bad.

That's apparently a price for a used unit. Most new ones run in the $150 range on the 'Net. Be careful - that's an easily and frequently abused item. I think the coin for a brand new one would be well spent.

As an aside, why do you need 25 A for HF?

Well I'd eventually like to get into some serious DXing and although the solar cycle is on the wax, it will be a few years before propagation is decently better than now.  I'd like to get a higher power radio to compensate  so for the moment, more juice is to my advantage.
