Title: Shouldn't CAP lead the way?
Post by: RiverAux on December 14, 2006, 09:14:21 PM
A member on another CAP discussion list made a very good point today -- Shouldn't CAP be leading the way in upgrading the ELTs in our fleet from 121.5 to 406?

I think they probably plan to phase them in along with the new aircraft...

We're not getting that many new aircraft quickly enough for that to make a big impact on the overall fleet.

the transition from 121.5 to 406 ELTs in CAP aircraft has been underway for about two years, that I know of.  The 206 in the Sq that I just left had a 406 installed over a year ago.  It isn't a new aircraft, 1972, in fact.  I believe that most of the CAWG aircraft(26) have the new ELTs installed.

Pretty pricey: installation alone runs $1800.  I can't remember what the unit costs.

Can't we just get all the comm equipment first.
