In the big scheme of things the orange vests are a very minor issue.  Put enough vests in each aircraft for each seat and call it good.  Next.

The real problem is we are members of an organization that has a safety culture that's starting to go wild.  Don't get me wrong, we need to be safety conscious.  However our new safety lessons envision a boogeyman behind every corner.

I took the new member online safety course today.  It insists there are risks in all activities.  ALL.  It would be nice if they could tone it down a little.  Do we really need to think ORM before holding a squadron meeting or conference call?  It's time for dinner cadets, but first we have a briefing on the proper use of plastic utensils from Major Pansy.  Holy smoke, I better evaluate the hazards of going to bed.   >:D

Taking the safety program beyond the reasonable runs the risk of people ignoring the valuable nuggets buried within the mass of steaming dung.

To quote Montgomery Burns:

SEE MY VEST!

Some men hunt for sport,
Others hunt for foodELTs,
The only thing I'm hunting for,
Is an outfit that looks goodmeets the regulations...
See my vest, see my vest,
etc.
