Title: WANTED:Jodies!
Post by: miss.aviator.girl on February 28, 2013, 10:53:43 PM
Please Share your best and funniest jodies. Here's one I wrote. (as a joke.)

Mama,mama can't you see
What CAP has done for me

I've already gotten to fly
Plus I met this Texas guy

He seems nice and pretty sweet
And his accent's kinda neat

Title: Re: WANTED:Jodies!
Post by: SonicN2O on March 11, 2013, 11:40:17 PM
Here's one everybody knows, but I might as well put it on here.

When I do PT
There's a Flight Sergeant there
When I do PT
There's a Flight Sergeant there

Flight Sergeant
Flight Sergeant

Why don't you leave me alone?
Why don't you ever go home?

When I go into town
There's a Flight Sergeant there
When I go into town
There's a Flight Sergeant there

Flight Sergeant
Flight Sergeant

Why don't you leave me alone?
Why don't you ever go home?

When I watch TV
There's a Flight Sergeant there
When I watch TV
There's a Flight Sergeant there

Flight Sergeant
Flight Sergeant

Why don't you leave me alone?
Why don't you ever go home?

...You get the idea.

Here's another one:

You see the bearded ninja
alone upon the hill
his name is Chuck Norris
his game is to kill

Chuck Noooooris
Roundhouse kiiick!

I was watchn' infomercials
on my big TV
Chuck Norris was workin' out
on Insanity

Chuck Noooooris
Roundhouse kiiick!

You heard of evolution?
We know that it's a lie
It's only a list of animals
he allows to survive

Chuck Noooooris
Roundhouse kiiick!

Now, Chuck is not a surgeon
but still, he knows some tricks
the fastest way to your heart
is with Chuck Norris fists

Chuck Noooooris
Roundhouse kiiick!

If you get out of line
he will put you in your pla-ace
the power of a roundhouse kick
can be seen from outer space

Chuck Noooooris
Roundhouse kiiick!

He doesn't have a chi-in
be he should still be fea-red
legend tells of a third fist
beneath his magnificent be-eard

Chuck Noooooris
Roundhouse kiiick!

Don't break the Law in Texas
you'll put yourself in danger
Chuck Norris' Alter Ego
is Walker Texas Ranger

Chuck Noooooris
Roundhouse kiiick!

If you can see Chuck Norris
Chuck Norris can see yoou
and If you can't see Chuck Norris
he's prob'ly right behind you!

Chuck Noooooris
Roundhouse kiiick!

Doubletime, HARCH!
#lol

And while I'm at it:
C130 rollin down the strip
Airbourne daddy
Gonna take a little trip

Mission: Top Secret, Destination: Unknown
we don't know if he's coming home

Stand up, buckle up,
Shuffle to the door
Jump right out and count to four

And if my chute don't open wide
I have another one by my side

And if that chute don't open round
I'll be the first one on the ground.

If I die on the combat zone
Box me up and ship me home.

You actually march to these? It seems like they have very poor meter.

Jodies are like a poem - they rhyme (sometimes) and they have meter. The meter is the beat and timing. Here's part of one, beat in bold:
I don't know but I've been told,

All the bold words are on the left foot.

I don't see any kind of meter in what you posted, for either left or right foot emphasis.

The first one is syncopated:

When  I   do      P          T...                (When I   do      P          T...)
^L           ^R          ^L          ^R          ^L          ^R          ^L          ^R

Flight Sergeant (Flight Sergeant)...

The second and third ones are very metered:
you See the bearded ninja...

C-130 rollin' down the strip...

These jodies also make use of syncopation, which might be where your confusion arises from.

Need to stick to the KISS principle.
Title: Re: WANTED:Jodies!
Post by: SonicN2O on March 12, 2013, 12:33:06 AM
Actually, calling a jodie with off-beat and syncopated elements can and will be just as effective with keeping the flight in step as a jodie that's all quarter notes. Try marching while chanting something like this to yourself and you'll find that it works. Plus, adding some rhythm variety to a jodie makes it much more interesting.
I'm not trying to start an argument, just pointing out what I've experienced.

"C-130 rollin' down the strip" is a running cadence. One thing I do notice is that a lot of cadets do try to use what one AD are running cadences as marching cadences. If you have ever run to one, you know how weird they sound when someone tries to call them for a marching formation.

BITD we used C-130 as a marching cadence. As well as Captain Jack, Around Her Neck She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, The Prettiest Girl, and the one that goes "Pebbles and Bam-Bam on a Friday night, tried to get to heaven on a paper kite". Some were more interchangeable with running than others.

This isn't a jodie (it's a song) but I think it's really great! I guess you could say it describes me. ;) ;)
-----------------------------------
GIRL CADET
(a song)
Oh, when a girl cadet walks down the street
She looks a hundred par from head to feet
She has a smile, a while, a winning way
And just to look at her, you'll recognize her & you'll say
Now there's a girl I'd like to know
She has a cadence, spirit, pep and go
And just to look at her is quite a treat, it's hard to beat
A girl from the Civil Air Patrol

The guy I marry, he will be
A Spaatz Cadet in the CAP
We will raise a family
A Squadron that looks just like me
Our kids will march before they walk
And give commands before they talk
Oh how happy we will be
When they command the CTG

This was one of my favorite from Army JROTC BITD. Bold lines are caller.   I also love using count cadence/delay cadences

We are ____________                                                        (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, CAP, mascot, etc)
And we like to party                                                             (could be replaced with PT, etc)
(P-A-R-T-Y)
Party Hardy
(H-A-R-D-Y)
Party hardy all night long
Your left

(Right)
Your left
(Right)
Your Left, Right, Get on down
Your left

Your left
(Right)
Your left, right, get on down
Now DROP
(Recover)
And beat your face. ______ (or CAP) is gonna rock this place.

Well, Stratton ANG base is the only base that has the LC-130's that go to the polar regions. And I think you are from NYWg since Stratton is used solely for C-130's/LC-130's.  Believe me, I've done my research on Stratton

How about the original?

C-130 rollin' down the strip,
Fifty-two troopers on a one way trip.
Mission top secret destination unknown,
They don't know if they're coming home.

C-130 on the taxi-way,
Looks like Airborne'll jump today.
Stand up, hook up shuffle to the door,
Jump right out and count to four!

If my main doesn't open up wide,
I've got a reserve by my side!
And if that one fails me too,
Look out earth I'm coming through!

I think there was more, but I can't remember the rest.

I've hear people lead it straight into "If I die in the old drop zone"

If I die I in the old drop zone
Box me up and ship me home
Pin my ribbons upon my chest
And tell my mama Ive done my best.

That reminded me of how I heard it. Very similar, but it's a little different.
And if that one fails me too,
Look out earth I'm coming through.
Tell my sergeant I did my best,
Pin my wings upon my chest.

Everywhere we go
People wanna know

So we tell them
We're not the Navy
The deck swabbing Navy
We're not the Army
The ground poundin' Army
We're not the Marines
They dont even look mean
We are the air force
The high-flying airforce

I also really like this one. The tone, syncopation, harmony, and sound is awesome. Heres one we used:

When I get to Germany
Hitler will say
Howd you get to Germany
In just one day
And I'll reply with a whole lotta anger
Glory, Guts and a little bitta danger

There were other countries but I forgot them. But we did make a "parody" at encampment.

When I get to Canada
Justin Beiber will say
How'd you get to Canada

Glory, guts, and little bitta danger.

Theres also:

Down by the River
Took a little walk
Ran into _____(whatever flight you don't like)
We pushed 'em
(HEY)
We shoved 'em
(HEY)
Threw 'em in the river
And laughed as they drowned
We don't need no ______(same flight as before)
Hanging around.

here is a very good version of the popular "C-130" Jodie

C-130 rollin' down the strip,
Hit a pothole and started to flip!
Alpha Flight(or whatever flight you don't like :D)
was trapped in side,
now theyre all kentucky fried!
Our encampments on a base used solely by C-130s so I think this jodie is out of the question.
How about the original?

C-130 rollin' down the strip,
Fifty-two troopers on a one way trip.
Mission top secret destination unknown,
They don't know if they're coming home.

C-130 on the taxi-way,
Looks like Airborne'll jump today.
Stand up, hook up shuffle to the door,
Jump right out and count to four!

If my main doesn't open up wide,
I've got a reserve by my side!
And if that one fails me too,
Look out earth I'm coming through!

I think there was more, but I can't remember the rest.

For what it's worth, I believe a C-130 can hold 64 combat-equipped paratroopers instead of 52. It is a tight fit and the jumpmasters move around inside the aircraft by walking on top of the Soldier's equipment/legs (as I recall the scene from back in the Dark Ages when I was briefly down at the Benning School for Wayward Boys for three fun-filled weeks).

In case you are curious, the agenda for the Basic Airborne Course is:

Week 1: Separate the men from the boys
Week 2: Separate the men from the fools
Week 3: The fools jump

Hey, hey Navy,

Hey, hey Marine Corps,
Grab you guns and follow me.

Hey, hey Coast Guard,
Get outta your chair and follow me.

Hey, hey civilians,
Get of your butts and follow me.
I am the Air Force ROTC.

and i have one more after this

FT
Through the desert and across the plains
Steaming jungles and tropic rains
No mortal foe can stop me now
This is gonna be my solemn vow
I have honor annd I have pride
Winning serves me as my guide

This Air Force shocks our enemies
Brings them crashing to their knees
Field Training is plenty rough
To make it through you must be tough
Hey, Flight Commander, don't be blue
They're gonna make you a soldier, too

Hope I helped  ;D

Up in the mornin outta the rack

Greeted at dawn with an early attack

First sergeant rushes me out to chow

But I don't need it anyhow

Hail O Hail O Infantry
'A queen a' battle follow me
An Airborne Ranger's life for me!
'Cause nothin' in this world is free!

From a big bird in the sky

All will jump an' some will die

Off to battle we will go

To live or die, hell I dont know  (substitutided with 'heck' for CPPT purposes)

Hail O' Hail O' Infantry
Queen of battle follow me
An airborne rangers life for me
O' nothing in this world is free

Early at night its drizzilin' rain

I am hit and feel no pain

But in my heart I have no fear

Because my ranger God is here

Hail O' Hail O' Infantry
Queen of battle follow me
An airborne rangers life for me
O' nothing in this world is free

The mortars and artillery

The screaming bursts around me

Jagged shrapnel on the fly

Kills my buddy, makes me cry

Hail O' Hail O' Infantry
Queen of battle follow me
An airborne rangers life for me
O' nothing in this world is free

Hup, Two, Three, Your Left
Hooah
Hup, Two, Three, Four
AIRBORNE (Loud and thunderous)

The CAP squadrons I was in were mostly on US Army bases, my dad was Infantry, little brother is triple tabbed, CP staff were active duty SF/Rangers so I have fond appreciation for these. These are some of the ones I can post here. Others we sang would gain me a refresher on the CPP >:D.

Shoot, Shoot, Shoot...

I hear the choppers coming
They're flying overhead
They've come to get the wounded
They've come to get the dead

Refrain: Airborne (shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot to kill)
Ranger (shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot to kill) *

My buddy's in a foxhole
A bullet in his head
The Army says he's living
But I know that he's dead

I ran to tell the C-O
About my buddy's head
But when I got there
The C-O was dead

And now the battle's over
The smoke is all around
We wanted to go home
But we're six feet underground
-------
One of my favs when done right:
Deep in the battlefield covered in blood,
Lies an Airborne Ranger dying in mud.

Air, bor, or, or, orne
Ran, ger, er, er, er, er

Her fought to keep America free;
for soldiers like, you and me

Air, bor, or, or, orne
Ran, ger, er, er, er, er

Those silver wings upon his chest,
tell America that he's one of the best.

Air, bor, or, or, orne

Used to wear mini skirts.

Squadron -- is number one!
We can always get things done!
Squadron --'s best of all!
We never trip, we never fall!
Hold you head and hold it high
Squadron --'s passing by!!

Because at some encampments, they keep the same numbering system going year after year. For example, an encampment may have squadrons 1, 2 and 3 this year, then next year they'll have squadrons 4, 5 and 6, and so on. Some wings have been doing this for many years, hence the larger squadron numbers.

I guess that's just how they do it. The PAWG Cadet Training Schools have Squadron 10, 20, 30, 40, & 50 as encampment squadrons. There were two flights in every Squadron. The girls Squadron had like 25 girls so some of the other squadrons flights were almost bigger than the whole girl squadron. There is a Squadron 60 as well, but that's for Leadership Development course (It's based off of AFROTC summer Training). And also there was an honor Guard being trained. This year they will be hosting NER RCLS as well.

Does anyone notice that many of these jodies extoll violence and death? Don't get me wrong I like a Jodie as much as the next guy but many of the ones posted here are just over the top.  Surely the seniors supervising cadets have more commonsense. I understand why they are used in the military. It is part of the desensitization process to prepare recruits for the violence of combat.

To make it more absurd they are sung by 12-15 year olds with cracking voices who cringe at the idea of a group shower and no private latrine.  Do these future Airborne Rangers, PJs think private latrines are provided everywhere they go.  Is it part of CAP or the CP to let cadets glorify the virtues of violent death with jodies containing  lines like "my bayonet in his head" or "8x8 the whiskey was great" followed by" 9x9 the women were fine" Wonder how that last line works in a co-ed flight?

I am not suggesting some sort of Jodie police only that seniors exercise common sense.  CAP is not the Army, Marines etc. with a combat role.  Cadets will come up with this stuff on their own but as seniors we have the responsibility to curb this practice

I would have to say that most seniors and senior-aged cadets use common sense.  However, I have seen some that do not.  I have also seen seniors that simply were ignorant until after it was sung.  There are plenty of creative people that could easily come up with CAP-related cadences.  In fact, I found this on the web:

http://www.wesleychapelcap.com/uploads/Jody_Pamphlet_3_5_x_5.pdf (http://www.wesleychapelcap.com/uploads/Jody_Pamphlet_3_5_x_5.pdf)

Would be nice to have repository of such CAP cadences as a reference for future cadets.

Obviously, but all the jodies that the flight sergeant in charge of me has sung are at least a little bit violent.

Perhaps a guide that doesn't have the word "Army" on the cover would be more appropriate for use in CAP?

If only there was an official publication that contained appropriate cadence songs.

Oh Well. (http://capmembers.com/media/cms/Drill_Guide__Reduced_E82AFEB111DF0.pdf)

I had a squad leader that got in trouble for some of his more colorful descriptions of his rifle turned into running cadences.  In protest, the only thing he would have the company sing is the alphabet song.  210 infantrymen running, singing "A B C D E F G! H I J K L M N O P!"  I also had a first sergeant who had us sing War Pigs as we ran around division headquarters.  Creativity and a thorough knowledge of Black Sabbath songs makes for a fun run.

Mostly creativity.
