In the Lobby thread entitled "EchoLink" several non-ham radio operators mentioned that there should be a similar EchoLink service for non-hams. IAWG has one and it is working. I have set one up for CapTalk for your use. You will need a computer with sound card and microphone. Download the software at http://www.goteamspeak.com/
Post a message to this board with your name and CAP ID and I'll send you a password. This is a change from earlier today when we had open access. Unfortunately some individuals got on and caused troubles so I had to restrict access.
Here are the rules:
1. Be professional.
2. No trashing, bashing or otherwise badmouthing the leadership of your squadron, group, Wing or NHQ. (Your First Amendment freedom of speech ended when I paid the teamspeak bill. If you want to engage in that kind of behaviour pay for it yourself.)
3. Don't sell anything.
Nick Critelli
I'm downloading it right now. Is there gonna be a specific date for everyone to join, or are you just looking to throw the invitation out there?
We can handle up to 20 users at a time. If that isn't sufficient, I'll bump it up. It's just like EchoLink.

I tried to connect and got socket error 11004. Now what?
Try reconnection.
It's not working Colonel. >:(
Others have been on and talking and the system is up.
Ok, I think I'm on, but there doesn't appear to be anyone else on.
Sorry Guys. My mic was not cooperating. Thats why i suddenly disappeared after you asked me a question. I've gotten it fixed and i'm good to go.
We won't hold that against you. Just don't let it happen again!! ;) There's always later or tomorrow.
Sounds like everybody is having fun. Here are some operating practices that will make your use more enjoyable:
1. Use communications protocol...say "over" when you are done.
2. It is simplex communication just like using a CAP radio. When you are talking everyone else should be listening.
3. When there are more then two people on line, when you finish your transmission please indicate who you wish to talk next. A simple, "over to you Ryan" will work so Joe will know not to speak.
4. Monitor the user list. When someone new comes on line, give them a minute to hear and learn what is going on THEN turn it over to them to introduce themselves. This will avoid the "breaker breaker" situation.
5. Remember there are many people on line...from cadet airman basics to Wing Commanders. Use appropriate titles and pay appropriate deference.

ROA not required for this BTW ;)
Hey just a suggestion. While we were on the server some non members signed on and started causing trouble. I suggest that we change the password and not post it on the forum, but make it available only by PM. One of them was very disruptive and we should make the server secure. Its already seeming to be a valuable communications resource, lets not let others muck it up for us.
That, OR, put it on a password protected forum thread.
Teamspeak is back on line.

If you have a mic and have not gotten on CAPTALK(the server), I would highly encourage you to do so! We will be on later this evening. Hope to see more of you on!

That is the problem, my mic broke. >:( >:( I am going to have to buy a new one, so no Teamspeak for me tonight. :'( :'(
Nope. I meant the CAPTALK server for teamspeak.
Kris, are you on TeamSpeak now?
This isn't really CAP Talk anyway... It's more like CAP Type.
I just want to let everybody know that I am sorry that I did not answer when one of you asked me a question on Teamspeak. My mic was not working and I could not answer if I wanted to.. I was just listening in. My apologies and I will get a new one soon.
I prefer Ventrilo :)

Have you tried plugging a headset into the mic port? It sounds bad but it can work depending on the headphones.
I will try when I get home. Maybe it will work.
(Are mics very expensive? ??? The one I had, was my Dad's)
Thanks. :D

I the mic I have was purchased at Wal-Mart for 8 bucks.
Cool! I will try to buy one as soon as I can..
p.s. - If you see my username on Teamspeak, and ask me a question and I do not answer, just assume that I am listening and I do not have a mic yet.
;D

You do know that you can send text messages as well, right? Did register when Lt. Col. Critelli told you to try it?
Would not let me. >:( As soon as I can get registered, I will text.
I just though I would post some chat times that we normally use. The server is up 24/7 BUT most folks talk on the Server at about 2030 to 2230 MCT or 2130-2330 Central. Just thought I would put that out there. Sometimes we are on after 1700 MCT till 2330 but normally we don't stay on past 2345.
So if you never see anybody on, check these times.
Ah yep, too much time on somebody's hands.
Hahaha. Yea. Its a way to temporary escape from homework.

Yep, $8.38. I just bought that one today. Good mic!
Nick, I'm on.
Jimmy
I am on right now, with a MIC! ;)
Like Recuiter said, Teamspeak is AWESOME!!! If you have a mic and you want to learn more about CAP or want to discuss CAP with knowledgeable people, then Teamspeak is for you. It is extremely easy to download (even with my slow computer) and the connection is very good. Thank you Lt. Col Nick Critelli, for this wonderful opportunity. ;D
I will be on in about 10-20 min., hopefully, so join us if you can. ;D
OK, I am on!! ;D
I'll be on in a minute. I forgot my log in name, and tried to enter too many times. My IP is banned for 10 minutes.
Working on mic problems. Connection is fine.
*update*
Mic problem fixed - Windows had it muted.
Hey All!
Now that everybody has a Mic, I get called out to do SAR....lol....but its all good.
I hope to be on tonight for a little while. So if you regulars were wondering -- Wheres Kris? I have been out doing live SAR this weekend. See ya'll on later!
Good luck on your SAR. Also, be careful.
I am on for a little while.
Unlike CapTalk the BBS, CapTalk Teamspeak does not allow anonymous logins. You must use and display your real name and rank.

Excellent idea. If an idea or attitude is worth having, it is worth claiming. I don't have VoiP capability or a CAPID (
yet), do you guys do mIRC?

Doug, if you run Echolink, I'm sure a few of us could jump on sometime for a QSO.
Ryan,
I appreciate the offer. I am such a technological dinosaur that I don't know what Echolink is. Don't take up bandwidth explaining it, I have a twenty-five year old peripatetic daughter, I will go pick her brain.
I don't know how many of you are aware of Meebo. It's a web based chat/IM client that you access via your web browser.
http://www.meebo.com
You don't have to have an AIM, Yahoo, Google Talk, MSN Messenger ID to use the service, but if you do, you can access them all at the same time from the same interface. Kind of like a web based version of Trillian or GAIM.
If you do have more than one IM ID for the above mentioned services you can be logged into them simultaneously.
I use this at work because they block all the ports used by the IM clients I'd like to use. All the traffic goes over port 80.
NOW... the real reason for mentioning this. They have recently added a 'Meebo Rooms' feature where you can create the 'room' of your choice, and people can get in there and chat.
Anyone interested in giving it a try?

How about private messaging Lt Col Critelli with your details and requesting the password, rather than posting here?
Does anybody still use the Teamspeak server? I'm on right now if anybody wants to hop on.

I know. I have been on a lot in the last couple of days, but nobody has been on when I log on, even during the regular times.
When I get on Teamspeak, it shows an X for all Permissions other than Join, Registered. So I can't type messages (can't find the mike I used to use online. And everytime I've gone on, nobody was there anyway.

Hey All,
This is C/Lt Col Poskey....I used to be on all the time, but due to school I have not had time lately. I will try and be on in the near future.
Is this still up?
yep, I haven't been on in a looooonnnngggg time.
Dave, 395992
Yeah, I haven't been on for some time.. I hope to be on more soon. It is a really neat system.
Anyone been on recently? Its a shame to have it paid for and not use it.
Im on right now if anyone wants to talk.
We really should set up a time where we get together for a "Teamspeak net"
Does anyone still get on, or is it done with??? I tried logging on, but it would kick me off..
seeing as the member who started the team speak thread is no longer a member of cap I don't think it will continue
You would probably be better off using Skype, than TS or Vent for this sort of thing anyway.
