Title: Just saw this on CAP Discussion group on FB

Just saw this on CAP Discussion group on Facebook. Thoughts?

"Our wing commander has given the squadrons permission to punish cadets but it must serve a training purpose. The staff in our squadron have been thinking about this for awhile and we can't think of anything. Can anyone help us out with some ideas? We would also like some help with coming up with rewards."

What wing even is this? And can a wing commander approve that?

I think the cadet either made it up or heard what he wanted to.

Where does it say we could not punish/discipline cadets?

There are limits to what can be done, such as corporal punishment, use of exercise, overtly embarrassing forms, hazing, etc.

Nevertheless, that does not mean cadets cannot be punished or disciplined.  For example:

1.  Academic discipline such as word essay or give a speech
2.  Counseling (not wall-to-wall though)
3.  Withhold promotion
4.  With hold attendance at an activity
5.  Closer supervision
6.  Removal from a staff position or leadership position
7.  Demotions
8.  Extra duties (such as clean the SQ area if the cadet constantly spilling things and not cleaning up; cleaning the van if the cadet spills a drink)
9.  Corrective training

Of course, these are in no order.  All punishment and discipline should fit the bill and should be progressive.  That is, move from low level discipline to moderate level to higher level discipline/punishment.

Perhaps you could tell us what you mean when you use the term "punish"?

Then ask there, and leave that nonsense where it belongs.
