Ok, so I've finally given in to award and ribbon temptations because I was never a cadet and decided to earn the Yaeger Aerospace award.

I knew there was an online test so I went to take it.  Turns out there are two tests... version A and B.  I passed version A and it said to print out the certificate and mail it to Wing AE officer to get credit and the Award. Here are my questions:

1. Do I need to take version B as well to get the Award or are there two tests just for choices?

2. Is passing the exam online sufficient for the award or do I have to take it to my AE Officer and correct it to 100%?  If I do have to correct it, how do I get a copy of my taken exam to know which questions I got wrong?

I asked our Sqdn AE Officer and he doesn't quite seem to know what I should do.  His expertise is with cadets since we have very few senior members (for now).

1. No, you do not have to take the other test. That's for the folks who tank their first time.

2. Yes, passing online is sufficient.

Finish the instructions as above and you will get your award.

Just don't expect it soon, because our Wing AE apparently only sends Yeager paperwork to NHQ a few times a year.

Congrats on passing the test!

Congrats on passing the test!

Ditto what Dan said.  I passed my Yeager back in May when I got bored one night and tried to take all the available online tests.   8)

It just got posted to E-Services earlier in December, and the certificate is still nowhere to be seen.  Interestingly, though, they backdate the award in E-Services to 5/2005, and not the date that it was submitted to NHQ by Wing (12/2005).

Hey, 7 months for a form turn-around out of New York Wing is amazing!  (Someone probably earned a Commander's Commendation for that one).  Ask Dan, I do believe his Form 27 from August is still pending processing...   :o

I think Dan will be able to sign his Form 27 when he becomes the NYWG/CC

Thanks to all for responses.   I will be forwarding it to NYWG/HQ

Or better yet... I handed my Yeager results personally to the Texas Wing director of AE. She was one of the instructors at my SLS.  ;D

I share Pylon's concerns about those certificates.  I was under the impression that most wings keep those certificates (CAPC 20) on hand at wing headquarters and, if so, it shouldn't be that tough to get one filled out and forwarded to the recipient.
We've had issues with Yeagers here in ORWG in the past; one member waited over 14 months for his.  I was privileged to be the one to present his Yeager to him.  Thank goodness, we've improved on that over the last year or so.

Eclipse

In Illinois, the Yeagers die on the table waiting for someone on Wing staff to
write the member's name on the certificate in "caligraphy" ((*sigh*)).  It is not unusual for it to take more than a year to get the paper.

Anyway, what I have instructed my members to do is complete the test, submit everything through channels and do the 2a for the ribbon.  They can wear the ribbon immediately and if and when the cert ever shows, great, if not, no biggie as NHQ still has the record of the test.

Frankly, as soon as the test was offered in its open-book, online version, it lost whatever small bit of luster it had for me. The only reason I haven't completed it is I don't feel like breaking up my rack to add the ribbon.

New York Wing does the same thing.  The certificates wait for someone to hand caligrapher the recipients name on each.

What I do wonder about is since the form to NHQ and the certificate are clearly mutally exclusive, why it still takes Wing HQ 7 months to send the members name to NHQ.  By regulation, it's supposed to happen every 30 days.  Certificate caligraphy or not, the Wing can still record the names for professional development purposes.  People need that requirement for level advancement!   ::)

Yeah, that seems like something we'll have to start doing locally.  Just use the printout certificate from the E-Services test completion, along with a signed CAPF 2A in the file to justify completion for purposes of ribbons and signing off level completions or for the COP gold seal.

I seem to have had the OPPOSITE problem.........I got the Certificate in a whirlwind 3 weeks, but the posting to NHQ was withering on the vine. Eclipse has already nailed the issue here in ILWG, so I won't pile on. But, for those like myself who have the certificate in hand, I found that simply contacting Mr. Spinks (AE Program Mgr at NHQ) was the remedy. He advised me that our Wing AE person generally took the time to submit his awards once a year........and some dates on his latest list were 2 years old. He asked me to send a picture of the Certificate in an email, and he posted it to NHQ and e-services the very next day. Good to know that at least SOME folks take their charges seriously ;). Mr. Spinks' contact info was found in the Knowledgebase answer regarding how to submit the Yeager Award........and I still have it if anyone desires it.

all the other issues aside. I'm lucky to be in ND wing where our Wing and Squadron PDO's seem to be on top of their game. What I wonder is why a seperate 2a needs to be processed. Why wouldnt it be automatic? but then again, since when does anything make compleat sence?

The 2A requirement is a hold over from before the online test, when you actually had to read the book then take the open book test.

Finally got my certificate a full year late  :o

Passed the test mid October of 2006 Got it in the mail first week of November.

I just thought Id venture that the online test was created to up the number of members that have taken the course. Even so, I am given to understand that the majority of Seniors DO NOT partake in this program.

IMHO it should be required for 1st LT. It would make a nice type of pre-pme.   --> For those who have yet to take SLS or the old ECI-13.

In any case it should be required seeing as we wear the AIR FORCE uniform. > JMHO <

Why?  That stuff is not even required for Active Duty Airman.  I agree it should be required but not just because we wear the uniform.  We should learn it because we require our cadets to learn it.

Leadership quote right there, good job!

I'd agree it has nothing to do with the uniform or the AIR Force. Pilots get a lot of that stuff, space guys get the space stuff, a few other narrow specialities, but no one I can think of would get the whole package. I took it exactly because it's an optional thing that demonstrates I do what I ask my people to do, and would have done that w/ or w/o the ribbon, just like I PT with them as much as I can while recording PFT scores & have passed all the leadership tests too (except spaatz, we don't get copies of that just to take). It's disingenuous to do otherwise, to me at least. I can't hod others to that standard, but if you don't have a Yeager & you've even seen a cadet in passing once there's something wrong.

I do like requiring it for 1Lt, and using a PME format (maybe even running it thru AFIADL) to familiarize people with that system in advance of the Senior Officer Course (13)... I think building that familiarity may help increase the number of people taking the advanced PME (SOS, ACSC, AWC) which are... I wouldn't say better than RSC/NSC, I don't think they're in competition, but the course & PME together are really the standard of training we need to provide.

I took the test in Nov.  Showed the results to my commander and up the chain it went.  I still have not received the award.  NV Wing keeps having problems getting paperwork done.  It is things like this that make members get frustrated with trying to get things done.

Why can't we just have the award sent from national once the test is passed?

Cause te regulation would have to be changed. While the test is online & commonly done by self-study (or no study), what's supposed to actually begoing on is your AEO conducting an active AE program for SMs & then them taking the formal test online. They are supposed to report that activity to Wg, both doing the course, how many yeagers were accomplished in the quarter/year, etc... and the Wg AEO is supposed to administrate that system, including issue of the certificate. It was designed this way to make it easier, not harder, but unfortunately NHQ does their job & a lot of Wg AEOs do not. What typically happens is people take their test & never make sure it is forwarded to Wg, then when it does get there they tend to be held & processed once a quarter or in some cases less often. The average time from test to certificate tends to be a year to 18mos from what I've heard, and yes that is shameful & does effect retention.

Robert Hartigan

Ohio seems to have its act together. I took the test 12/31/2006, (I actually took the test 9 years earlier but, the paper work got lost) and on Jan 13  2007, the certificate was processed. The local group commander presented the certificate to me 12 Feb 2007. I made a big deal out of it and sent a press release to all the newspapers. The presentation would have been as soon as Jan 15 but, I had scheduling conflicts and then the group commander's schedule conflicted so the first time we were able to meet was 12 Feb. Three weeks from test to credit by E-services is not bad. Sorry to hear that other are victims of lag.
