Title: Social Media ADVERTISING
Post by: etodd on January 25, 2018, 03:01:37 AM
Not my Wing, nor my Squadron. But here is a good example of a Facebook post designed to get folks excited enough about CAP to come visit a meeting.

Our Facebook page is very similar. So I hope that we're on the right track since I see it duplicated elsewhere.

The key to social media, I find, is that it needs to be quick, brief, and to the point (Be BLUF: Put your Bottom Line Up Front). Spelling errors, walls of text, and cartoonish and scattered imagery makes it look unprofessional (points me back to those old 90s free-to-build website with the wall-to-wall dancing hamsters).

We treat social media like we're speaking to the general public in our area (which we are). We don't blast out upcoming activities and reminders for our members; it's not a squadron communications center. Share what your unit as done both inside HQ and out in the community. Keep it to current events and local happenings (don't share that 20,000-time re-posted photo from the California Encampment if you're in South Carolina.

And uniforms, uniforms, uniforms. Don't post people out of regulation (whether the public knows the difference or not). Keep it professional.

Another thing to think about:

be visual. I see a lot of text. Walls and walls of text that really isn't very readable and is downright wrong in some cases.

Nobody's going to read that.  A 1-2 sentence caption on your REALLY GOOD photo and that needs to be that.
