What roles have you had in your unit as a Cadet NCO? What roles have you had, if any, as a Cadet Officer?

Flight CC is the beginning of indirect leadership.  Presumably you will be managing a manager(s) (Flt Sgt).

At that level you still have a lot of direct input as well, but need to start testing and exercising delegation and trust
in your subordinates.

Learning to not be a micro-manager, while still be in control, is a skill that will serve you no matter what you do in life.

Mentoring the flight sergeant is a major part of your duties. Remember that it's an entry-Level position and usually a cadet's first encampment staff job. It may be their first leadership position ever.

So help the guy/girl out.  Don't correct them in front of the flight. I recommend having a daily feedback session where you cover what they're doing right and where they can improve. Don't forget to give feedback on their improvement efforts.

Run interference for them. Nobody outside the flight needs to talk to your flight sergeant. They go through you.

Plan the next day out as soon as you get the schedule. Don't be reactive, be proactive. Attack the schedule. Figure out who is responsible for what before the day starts.

Use the flight training Officer whenever necessary.

I had assistant Tango Flight Sergeant in April then Alpha flight sergeant in May and then in July I went to cascade falcon as a Flight Sergeant in August I became the First Sergeant. And I've been Tango Flight Commander since December even though I'm still only a Chief. I'm applying for flight commander at cascade falcon next year.
