I am writing my units SOP and am wanting to include a section on uniform alterations. Leaving the cadets to do uniform alterations independently or take it to the local alterations shop. How can I list the contact information for this shop without making it sound like the civil air patrol has endorsed this shop?

Using the language in R110-1 (Internet Operations) that governs linking to external sites would probably get you close enough to what you want.

How about this for a disclaimer:
"You know how to read, right? Look in this wonderful book called the Yellow Pages under "alterations." Or there's this other magical device called Google. Put in "alterations" and the name of your city in the little white blank, hit return, and in a few seconds, you'll find any number of shops that perform alterations and sew insignias. God/Buddha/Allah/Vishnu/Yaweh/Hap Arnold/Billy Mitchell/Mom and Dad gave you a brain. Use it." 8)
You could also put the shops on a separate page, sheet, stub, etc, and just slide that in.
"Some local shops in the XXXX area.. "
the yellow pages thing is cute guys really, but the reason I only am including one, is because the shop is the ONLY one for 25 miles
Why not endorse them in way? Get the Senior leadership to get a preferred rate, and then you can freely recommend it as it benefits the members.
Putting the disclaimer on the sheet should cover the "endorsement" issue.

well shes always charged great rates and generally fast service so no special rate is really needed

Because we are not corporate officers (i.e. wing CCs and up).
He's 'endorsing' it to his unit members. It will be something like when I had a good place by my house, and when I was asked by my cadets where they can take stuff to be done right, I told them where to go.
It's not like he's going to go to activities/parades and endorse the place in a CAP uniform.
I really think we need to consider why the endorsement rule was put in place, and how this situation could in any way mean anything more than a local member helping other local members by recommending a local business.
I guess we should 2B all those members who recommended their unit members should shop at the Hock too.
There is a major difference between informing members of where they can get required items and "ENDORSING" a business.
Got no problem with someone saying..."oh go to the Big Bad Tailors on Main Street" or "www.thehock.com" will fill your needs.
But an official endorsement is a legal contract.....that means it must be done at wing level or above.
Read the OP, his concern isn't how to endorse, but to not have his listing seem like an endorsement. What I'm saying is that at his level, it's a tip, and has nothing that would make it seem like an official endorsement.

So, if there is only one tailor shop in his community and people ask "where can I get my insignia's sewn on?" and all he says is "Fong's House of Insignia Sewing is the only place in town that I know of that does that," from a practical point of view, seems like a moot point.

An SOP on how to get your insignia's sewn on? Really? There's being helpful ("Fong's House of Insignia Sewing is the only place in Melonville that we know of that can sew your insignias" v. A multistep policy that assumes our members (including cadets and their parents) are idiots? Ok, guilty as charged. Sarcastic because most CAP members are not doorknobs. Seems that most people ask around or get a family member to do it or grab a needle and thread and do it themselves. No one in my squadron at any age seems to be so helpless as to not find a way to get their insignia sewn on their uniforms.
I really don't see it as treating people like idiots.
Joining CAP can have all sorts of challenges, especially getting uniforms in order. Why not make it as easy as possible for our new members to get acclimated and engaged in the organization?
It also saves the question of, "Oh, where'd you get your uniform stuff sewn on?" I know that a lot of parents in my last unit were glad to have uniform supplier information as well as a few local tailors/embroidery shops listed.
Ditto. Uniforms can be so freakin' confusing for new people. Heck, CAPTalk folks can't even agree on what the regulations really mean.
Providing some helpful tips on getting it done correctly is a step in the right direction.

Helpful tips? Absolutely! An entire policy to address a situation where there is only apparently ONE seamstress in the greater Melonville metroplex who sews insignias for pay? Not so much.
