Just awesome.  Note: Little bit of uncouth language.

When I first saw this I thought to post it here, but then the amount of language that continually went on and on .. made me think to pass on it.

Further thinking that I don't care how "good" that helicopter pilot is, I would never want to bother flying with them.  Just too much unnecessary screaming and vocal chord action to distract from the situation.

Too bad such a "fun" segment is otherwise useless now, for anything but water-cooler chatter. While the maneuver could be considered "safe", from an ORM prospective, it's certainly not wise for many to attempt, and from a showmanship prospect, there are many old pilots.. and bold pilots.

But the two don't tend to mate. :) The mouth on that guy, makes me think he's the latter.

Not bad other than the instructor smoking, talks like a 16 year old trying to impress his friends, no ground safety, dogs get really freaked out by tail rotors for some reason, and people whom you know nothing about just walking around your helicopter.
As far as the maneuver itself, yeah pretty mundane.  There isnt really much to what they did honestly.  Not bad flying.  I would have done it if I had been in a personal helicopter.  My issue would be a CFI smoking while he is flying, and talking like an idiot.  Based on the communication between the two, the student is pretty new.

The cigarette was the first thing I noticed. And if the guy in the left seat is a CFI then the student needs to find a "real" CFI.

There are a lot of yahoo helicopter CFIs out there, even still.

Smoking? Yeah, well, doors are off, people smoke in aircraft.  It happens.

Years ago the Army banned it, had us remove the "ash receivers" and all, and I had a pilot who refused to quit and used my chin bubbles as his ashtray when he wasn't flicking the ashes out the cockpit window (which would then subsequently fly right past my face in the cabin door... Jerk!). I finally took the broom and whacked him in the hand one day in cruise flight from the cabin door. He though he'd been shot. It was completely hilarious.

The language? Meh.

Yeah, the stuff he did is all personal preference.  But hardly what you would expect from a professional CFI.   Not that every CFI is a professional.  Then again...its the student paying.  If he doesnt care, then he doesnt care.....

The "cigarette" is electronic, he's trying to quit. Look closer.

Or he knows you shouldn't smoke for the risk factor, so he's using that to get the "same" nicotine buzz ..

Some people love the e-cigs because they aren't quite banned everywhere yet.

♠SARKID♠

I just thought it was a cool thing to do for a stranger. ::)

Flying Pig

Did you really think you were going to post a video and not have it nit picked? >:D.    Its was a cool thing to do. Just to bad he couldnt have remembered something about professionalism knowing he was videoing himself.  Id like to know what school he is from. Anyone know where this happened?  Dude had a sweet house though!!!

Honestly, he doesn't talk much worse than I do when I'm not around cadets.  His chopper, his mouth, I'd probably like the guy.

And just why on earth do they ban them?  What do the e-cigs do to other people?

The whole argument about banning smoking overall is that "second hand smoke" is a health risk to others, but there is no such animal with the e-cigs.  It's just nannying by the state if they are banned with no good justification.

(Lifelong non-smoker, so I don't really have a dog in the fight, except I despise people interfering in the business of others that causes no harm to others)

Flying Pig

I had no idea e-cigs were banned anywhere. How lame is that?!   If i ever run for political office my platorm will be that I swear I will never pass a single law!!!

Its more of an appearance thing rather than health reasons.

I'm no more interested in smelling the "harmless" vapor then in smelling cigarette smoke.

That's one thing that Las Vegas does have an issue with - most casinos still allow smoking.  It hits you like a smack in the face in all but
the highest-end establishments.  I can still remember working in offices when people were allowed to smoke at their desks, but
20 years later you forget just how bad it really was.

Even here, at NASA Mission Control, smoking on the job was OK BITD. Cigs in your shirt pocket and a slide rule on your belt.

Visible are a pack of cigarettes, three ashtrays, drinks and desert. Seeing drinks on the consoles - anyone remember "The Pepsi Syndrome?"

In 1973, when my mother thought she might be pregnant (with me) she went to the doctors office for a test, and vividly recalls the doctor smoking in his office, sitting behind his desk while telling my mom and dad that I was on the way.  After the news, my dad reportedly bummed a smoke off of the Dr   :o

We had one thing that stopped a whole buch of folks from smoking.
We took an EC-135C Looking Glass aircraft down to E-Systems in Waco, Texas for it's four year overhaul and reconfiguration to the "Common Command Post Configuration".
This was just after smoking had been banned on the aircraft.
One of the things that was done during the reconfiguration was that the overhead air conditioning ducts were removed and replaced with new ducts that matched the new configuration.
When they opened up the duct they found a 3/4" - 1" thick layer of nasty looking tar lining the duct. The after effect of 25 years of heavy smoking on the jet.
Just the sight of this mess made more then a few of our smokers give up the habit on the spot! :o
