There are about 200,000 high school students in Singapore.  Of these, 20,000, or about 1 in 10, are members of the National Cadet Corps, which encompasses their Air, Sea and Land Cadets.  Wish we could get a participation level like that in this country.

They do some pretty cool things over there, though, like sending the cadets on exercises with regular military, to sea on naval vessels, and they have summer special activities like sending cadets to jump school.

Of course Singapore has mandatory national service for males when they turn 18, too, which is a pretty good incentive to participate as a cadet and get ahead in the system.

I was impressed with their whole program.  ANd with the fact that an active duty Captain was in charge of the air cadets side.
Believe in fate, but lean forward where fate can see you.
