Teaching CAP Cadets to Fly

I'm all excited about this new push and funding to help Cadets learn to fly. I've mentioned here before about how I'm working toward my CFI so that maybe I can help train some of these Cadets.

If this is truly to help with the "pilot shortage" ... I'm wondering how all this will work out, in a practical sense?

For example, there is a Cadet in the news who received $12k and should be enough to finish up PPL. So ... then what?  Will that Cadet then keep getting funded to go all the way through CFI, so they can then go work for a school and start working building hours for that career?  If not getting any more funding, was that Cadet chosen because their family is well off enough to continue paying for the training?  Will CAP be paying for lots of Cadets to get their PPL, and then it stops because the Cadets cannot afford the $30k or more to get them through CFI?

Don't get me wrong, I'm always excited about new young PPLs ... but just wonder, practically speaking, how many actual Commercial pilots will result to help with the shortage?

On the one hand I would say give scholarships to the financially disadvantaged. But if you do that, will they be able to continue?

So is everyone else.  There currently is no "plan".

My understanding is that there isn't much detail beyond the general ideas published.

I think there is more plan than we believe.

I'm optimistic and sure hopeful.  It makes for some great marketing and publicity, even if all we actually do is get a few Cadets to solo and nothing else.

I'm certain you are right.  Can't imagine NHQ and the Wings would be pushing it like they are without a solid plan in place.  They are talking specifics in regard to the scholarships - that sounds to me like there's a plan.

What "specifics"?

You're free to watch the video and read the emails from the various Wings across the nation accompanying the video as an email attachment.

I personally earned my PPL in a CAP airplane with a CAP instructor. I was the first in my group to do so in a long time. I also had quite a few friends later do the same and none have them touched and airplane since. (2011). I hope that the program inspires them to continue in aviation and give back some of what they received otherwise CAP is putting money into a nice wallet artifact.
