AF.MIL unveils new design

We've got out own section under the emblems now, and I like the zoom feature when browsing them, otherwise looks like they've got a new CMS.

Very boring and uninspired. The blog layout is played out. The previous look was better (although not great either).

I guess, but one of the most popular sites on the internet is the Drudge Report.

Matt hasn't changed that design in 10 years, and yet, people don't have a problem visiting it.

Content is king, it always will be, that doesn't mean you have to ignore innovation or design in some mis-guided idea that it still 1995.

When you said "section" I thought it was something with stories, pictures, or substance.

I found the real CAP link under "Fact Sheets"; click on 'Fact Sheets' then scroll down to 'Other Organizations' and you will find the "Civil Air Patrol" fact sheet link.

Exactly. We lost our CAP link! Write to the website people and ask for it back.

I would like to see it proudly displayed under a section like "Volunteer Opportunities" or "Under 17 Programs", or even "The Air Force Auxiliary".

The page is still on there - last updated in January though.

Personally I'm not really a fan of the new Air Force site. It looks like something out of the 90's, not really what I expected from the most technologically advanced fighting force in the world.

The Air Force wasn't the only one to change their website layout.

(Not sure if the USCG's page is a new design, or still the same. I didn't visit them much in the past, so I wouldn't recognize it.)

They can all do much better.

^ Is it me or do all the GOV Websites look like they are following a new layout guideline? Since Obama was inaugurated it seems like a single underlying base was introduced, which can be customized to fit certain departments.

Maybe I am looking more into it than I should be.

Of those, the AF site is probably the worst. The Navy site might have been done by the same people that did CAP's (not a compliment).

No, you're not. I noticed that, too. They all seem to have some sort of flavor based off of this:

I've noticed that too - though DefenseLink.mil has been like that the last, I'd say year and a half of the Bush Administration - so that hasn't changed.

navy.mil also looked like that while Bush was still around. I think the push may have been started in the Bush admin when we started realizing that cyber relations are just as important as any others, and it's been pushed more with Obama.
